In everything from philosophical ethics to legal argument to public activism, it has become commonplace to appeal to the idea of human dignity. In such contexts, the concept of dignity typically signifies something like the fundamental moral status belonging to all humans. Remarkably, however, it is only in the last century that this meaning of the term has become standardized. Before this, dignity was instead a concept associated with social status. Unfortunately, this transformation remains something of a mystery in existing scholarship. Exactly when and why did "dignity" change its meaning? And before this change, was it truly the case that we lacked a conception of human worth akin to the one that "dignity" now represents? In this volume, leading scholars across a range of disciplines attempt to answer such questions by clarifying the presently murky history of "dignity," from classical Greek thought through the Middle Ages and Enlightenment to the present day.

Decades after an extraordinary encounter with a higher power, Kathleen Ann shares her awakened understanding of God's one, exquisite purpose for mankind; to continue creating His love through our souls. Kathleen Ann explains how the misunderstood, and often neglected soul, is the missing link meant to be used now to fulfill our true identity and purpose with Dignity, Integrity and Grace. Soul thinking challenges many centuries-old, ego-driven beliefs that ceased to serve our own, and humanity's, best interests a long time ago. SOS: Simplicity of Soul shows how soul thinking is the answer to correcting the chaos challenging the world today. Imagine this wonderful truth: When soul-driven, you are no longer alone and separate on this beautiful planet, but a unique and cherished thread in the magnificent tapestry that is Existence. This short, evocative and inspiring book invites you to awaken your true self by simply igniting your soul, as your God-given birthright, for your happiness, the happiness of others, and to continue your intended role in humanity's evolution to perfection.

Edith Stein is widely known as a historical figure, a victim of the Holocaust and a saint, but still unrecognised as a philosopher. It was philosophy, however, that constituted the core of her life. Today her complete writings are available to scholars and therefore her thinking can be properly investigated and evaluated. Who is a human person? And what is his or her dignity according to Edith Stein? Those are the two leading questions investigated in this volume. The answer is presented based on the complete writings of the 20th-c. phenomenologist and, moreover, compared to the traditional Christian understanding of human dignity present in the writings of the Church Fathers and the Doctors of the Church as well as Magisterial Documents of the Catholic Church. In the final parts of the book, the author shows how Stein's ideas are relevant today, in particular to the ongoing doctrinal and legal debates over the concept of human dignity.
