Esta obra investiga a estruturação de justificativas morais de engajamento social ao capitalismo flexível-financeiro-informacional através de estratos históricos que se superpõem e se renovam, bem como sua expressão em produção cinematográfica recente, estabelecendo a interdisciplinaridade entre filosofia, historiografia, sociologia e arte. Para esta investigação, analisamos o modelo de engajamento do empreendedor-de-si-mesmo, mobilizada por um conjunto de valores, o homo economicus senhor de suas potencialidades, sujeito racional de seu próprio interesse que busca maximizar seus investimentos em um ambiente de risco. Modelo de conduta lapidado a partir de conflitos sociais entre governantes e governados em 1968, encontrando em suas justificativas morais de engajamento social restos de valores de outras épocas, revistos e reeditados em novas roupagens. A promoção da obediência é investigada por meio de seus estratos históricos, revelando a relação primordial entre credores e devedores e seu processo secular de internalização psíquica. O desenvolvimento do individualismo, desde o cristianismo primitivo até sua emancipação enquanto categoria econômica, a partir do século XVII, bem como seu triunfo em nossa época, é também pesquisado, enquanto elemento-chave para a compreensão da subjetividade neoliberal. A crítica ao modelo de conduta do homo economicus com o advento da crise financeira de 2008 é analisada em confronto com a vivência temporal precarizada do empreendedor-de-si-mesmo, tal qual dramatizada no filme Sorry We Missed You do diretor britânico Kenneth Loach, revelando o empobrecimento da experiência temporal em um contexto de destruição de direitos trabalhistas, desregulação crescente, aumento de informalidade, trabalho intermitente e uso extensivo de dispositivos de controle tecnológico de performance. Trata-se de uma nova morfologia do trabalho marcada pela promoção permanente da insegurança e do medo que se traduz no encolhimento do espaço de experiências e horizonte de expectativas. Vivemos sob a crise da subjetividade neoliberal em que seus paradoxos têm sido amplificados. Esta pesquisa sugere a emergência da imagética empobrecida do ser humano calculista de suas dívidas e de sua própria miséria, sacrificado sob as garras do capital: o homo economicus precario, ou o dono do nada, nômade errante arremessado ao presente perpétuo em seu vazio existencial.
