Economic Change And The National Question In Twentieth Century Europe written by Alice Teichova and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-11-30 with History categories.

The authors in this collection of essays address the largely neglected but significant economic aspects of the national question in its historical context during the course of the twentieth century. There exists a large gap in our understanding of the historical relationship between the 'national question' and economic change. Above all, there is insufficient knowledge about the economic dimension of the historical experience with regard to the former multi-national states, such as the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia or Czechoslovakia; and equally too little is known about the economic component of national tensions and conflicts in bilingual Belgium or Finland, or the multilingual Spain or Switzerland. At the same time as emphasis is placed on the complex relationships between the economy and society in individual European countries, questions of state, identity, language, religion and racism as instruments of economic furtherance are at the centre of the contributors' attention.

Networks Governance And Economic Development written by Mari Joes Aranguren Querejeta and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-01 with Business & Economics categories.

This innovative volume explores the role of networks and variation in their forms of governance in delivering successful local and regional economic development. Written by experts from different disciplines, it offers a judicious mix of general theoretical reflections and specific case studies of different places, sectors, and scales. The result is an important contribution to an emerging research agenda on networked governance and the governance of networks and their influence on competitiveness in and across different scales of economic activities. Bob Jessop, Lancaster University, UK Networks, Governance and Economic Development represents one of the most authoritative compilations on the role of networks. The editors have brought together an impressive group of scholars who, from different disciplinary approaches, provide a fantastic overview of the key aspects in the governance of networks and on how they affect local economic development. Andrés Rodríguez-Pose, London School of Economics, UK This compact and authoritative book brings together the topical themes of networks and governance to advance understanding of the determinants of local economic development in the context of increasingly global relationships. Analyzing the governance of networks is critical in understanding how individual localities are able to promote development and consolidate positions within global production systems. In addressing such issues, this book accomplishes a significant bridging of disciplinary boundaries, incorporating different theoretical and empirical perspectives on the meanings and roles of territory, economic development and different forms of networks and governance. Networks, Governance and Economic Development brings together the analysis of leading researchers in their fields, following their interactions at a European Science Foundation exploratory workshop. The chapters will be an invaluable resource to researchers working in the fields of regional economic development, economic geography and economic policy as well as postgraduate students taking modules that specialize in aspects of the above themes.

Neo Liberal Economic Policy written by Philip Arestis and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-01-01 with Business & Economics categories.

. . . this is a very good book. It is carefully argued and well presented, incorporating a wealth of information. Andrew Mearman, Economic Issues Over the past two decades there has been a prevailing shift in economic policy in many countries. This reflects the continuing rise of neo-liberalism the doctrine that economic policy should leave it to the market and that governments should retreat from market intervention. This book provides a balanced and comprehensive appraisal of these important policy developments. The authors examine the most notable trends in neo-liberal economic policy such as the withdrawal from the use of fiscal measures and the reliance on monetary policy. They discuss the neo-liberal view that the causes of unemployment lie in the operation of the labour market, in particular its inflexibility. They also assess the increasing inclination towards the liberalisation and deregulation of markets, most notably financial markets. In light of these developments, the authors investigate several specific areas including: an assessment of the theory of credibility financial fragility and the development process a reappraisal of the Rehn Meidner Model for Sweden the economic policy of the Spanish socialist governments the costs of neomonetarism in Brazil macroeconomic policies of the EMU. The contributors expertly illustrate the ways in which neo-liberal policies have been applied and implemented. They also seek to show the shortcomings of the neo-liberal approach and illustrate the different policy models available. As such, this volume will interest and inform academics, economists and policymakers looking for a detailed critique of recent developments in economic policy.
