The project offers a collection of new interdisciplinary critical autoethnographic engagements with Hélène Cixous écriture feminine and work Three steps on the ladder of writing. Critical autoethnography shares a reciprocal, and inter-animating relationship with Hélène Cixous’ écriture feminine (“feminine writing”), and in this collection authors explore that inter-animation by explicitly engaging with Three steps on the ladder of writing. Three steps is a poetic, insightful, and ultimately moving reflection on the writing process and explores three distinct areas essential for writing: The School of the Dead—the notion that something or someone must die in order for good writing to be born; The School of Dreams—the crucial role dreams play in literary inspiration and output; and The School of Roots—the importance of depth in the 'nether realms' in all aspects of writing. Topics covered include: ways Cixous’ work can address the need for loss and reparation in writing critical autoethnography, how Cixous’ writing “makes our body speak” through concepts of birth and the body in, through and of critical autoethnography, whether writing in this way recast and reform prevailing orders of domination and oppression, and how Cixous’ writing around the ethics of loving and giving translates into response-able and non-violent forms of critical autoethnography in relation to otherness and difference. In this collection, we invite you to “Let us go to the school of [critical autoethnographic] writing” (Cixous, 1993, p. 3) with the work of Hélène Cixous, and speak in a different way and through a different medium of academic language, in an approach that reveals the tensions, the paradoxes, the pains and the pleasures of writing with critical autoethnography in the contemporary university.

The present volume looks at the relation between travel writing and cultural memory from a variety of perspectives, ranging from theoretical concerns with genres and conventions to detailed analyses of single texts. As befits the topic, the contributions roam far and wide, both geographically and historically. Some detail early Portuguese voyages of discovery, particularly to the East. Others depict encounters between Early, and not so early, Modern Western travelers and their Other interlocutors. Still others focus on travel writings as literature. Ecritures digitales aims to demonstrate how digital writing contributes to the emergence of “a new relationship between the human body and the machine” as Jacques Derrida proposed when he considered the effects of new technologies. This reconfigured relationship, not surprisingly, is also influencing the digital future of the Jewish-Christian textual corpus referred to as “the Scriptures”. The French title brings together this duality in one expression: Ecritures digitales. The English subtitle makes explicit the double meaning of the unique French word Ecritures: Digital writing, digital Scriptures. With a full French version and an abbreviated English version, this monograph analyzes the main challenges and opportunities for both writing and the Scriptures in the transition to digital culture. Ecritures digitales souhaite démontrer de quelle manière l’écriture digitale contribue à l’émergence d’une « nouvelle relation du corps humain aux machines », selon le diagnostique posé par Jacques Derrida à propos des effets des nouvelles technologies. Cette relation innovante influence également l’avenir numérique du corpus textuel judéo-chrétien désigné comme «les Ecritures». In Qumran studies, the attention of scholars has largely been focused on the Dead Sea Scrolls, while archaeology has concentrated above all on the settlement. This volume presents the proceedings of an international conference (Lugano 2014) dedicated entirely to the caves of Qumran. The papers deal with both archaeological and textual issues, comparing the caves in the vicinity of Qumran between themselves and their contents with the other finds in the Dead Sea region. The relationships between the caves and the settlement of Qumran are re-examined and their connections with the regional context are investigated. The original inventory of the materials excavated from the caves by Roland de Vaux is published for the first time in appendix to the volume.
