Guerra nel Dodecaneso, dopo il tragico Armistizio dell’Italia dell’8 settembre 1943 e lo sbarco degli anglo Americani a Salerno (Operazione “Avalanche”) e nelle regioni del sud Italia, la Marina e l’Aviazione tedesca dovettero impegnarsi al massino nel Dodecaneso, il gruppo di dodici Isole dell’Egeo, tra cui Rodi, che l’Italia aveva ottenuto dopo la guerra italo-turca del 1911. La campagna militare che ne segui, detta del Dodecaneso comportò tutta una serie di eventi bellici ampiamente favoriti dalla grande confusione e mancanza spesso di direttive dallo stato maggiore generale italiano che portò le truppe italiane ad unirsi in gran parte con le forze alleate anglo-greche stanziate nel Dodecaneso, a cercare di far fronte alla potenza militare tedesca che immediatamente si organizzò per cercare di recuperare il controllo della situazione. in alcuni casi ci furono aspri e terribili combattimenti, come a Lero, Rodi e Coo che si conclusero con la disfatta totale delle forze alleate.

After more than three centuries of silence, the voice of Francesco Cavalli is being heard loud and clear on the operatic stages of the world. The coincidence of productions at La Scala (Milan) and Covent Garden (London) in the same month (September 2008) of two different operas signals a new stage in the recovery of these extraordinary works, confined until now to special venues committed to 'early music'-opera festivals, conservatory, and university productions. The works of the composer who is credited with having invented the genre of opera as we know it are finally enjoying a renaissance. A new edition of Cavalli's twenty-eight operas is in preparation, and the composer and his works are at the center of a great deal of new scholarship ranging from the study of sources and production issues to the cultural context of opera of this period. In the face of such burgeoning interest, this collection of essays considers the Cavalli revival from various points of view. In particular, it explores the multiple issues involved in the transformation of an operatic manuscript into a performance. Although focused on the works of Cavalli, much of this material can transfer easily to other operatic repertoires.Following an introductory part, reflecting back on four decades of Cavalli performances by some of the conductors responsible for the revival of interest in the composer, the collection is divided into four further parts: The Manuscript Scores, Giasone: Production and Interpretation, Making Librettos, and Cavalli Beyond Venice.

Alle ore 6 di mattina del 4 maggio 1912 un contingente di cinquanta finanzieri, agli ordini del tenente Domenico Tomaselli, sbarcò insieme ai militari delle altre armi e corpi presso Calitea, nell’isola ottomana di Rodi. Era l’inizio della presenza italiana nelle Sporadi meridionali. Da semplice occupazione bellica, con gli anni, essa divenne un vero e proprio Possedimento, con norme fiscali e doganali sue proprie. In oltre trenta anni di governo italiano in Egeo, la Guardia di Finanza si contraddistinse sempre come segno tangibile d’ordine e di tutela del sistema socio-economico e dell’interesse collettivo. Nonostante il numero esiguo e i molti compiti sussidiari affidati al Corpo nello scacchiere – in pace e in guerra – ufficiali, sottufficiali e guardie dimostrarono un esemplare spirito di servizio oltre che di sacrificio, soprattutto nei duri mesi seguenti l’armistizio del l’8 settembre, fino al definitivo rimpatrio, avvenuto il 23 ottobre 1945. Una storia militare finora mai raccontata, ma densa di episodi di caldo eroismo, oltre che di comune e silenzioso quotidiano senso del dovere. GIOVANNI CECINI è nato a Roma nel 1979. Dopo aver prestato servizio quale ufficiale di complemento presso il 157° reggimento di fanteria “Liguria”, si è laureato nel 2003 in Storia Militare presso la facoltà di Scienze Politiche dell’Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza” e, nel 2007, in Storia Contemporanea presso la facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia. Ha partecipato alla realizzazione di “Bandiere, Stendardi, Labari e Gagliardetti dei Corpi Militari dello Stato 1860-2006” di Ales e Dell’Uomo (USSME 2008) ed è autore dei volumi “I soldati ebrei di Mussolini” (Mursia 2008), “Il Corpo di Spedizione Italiano in Anatolia 1919- 1922” (USSME 2010), “Arrigo Procaccia di religione israelita. Un finanziere nella tempesta delle leggi razziali” (Chillemi 2011), “Arnhem 1944” (Chillemi 2013) e “Militari italiani in Turchia 1919-1923” (USSMD 2014). Collabora con il Museo Storico della Guardia di Finanza, gli Uffici Storici degli Stati Maggiore della Difesa e dell’Esercito, l’Associazione Nazionale Combattenti Forze Armate Regolari Guerra di Liberazione e con numerose riviste, tra cui “Nuova Storia Contemporanea”, “Il Secondo Risorgimento d’Italia” e “Uniformi & Armi”.
