El Test de Goodenough ocupa, desde su aparición en 1926, un lugar privilegiado en cualquier batería de tests. Es el instumento más ágil y económico para medir el nivel mental del niño, en forma individual o colectiva, y tanto psicólogos como educadores no han dudado en elegirlo como uno de sus tests preferidos. En la presente revisión del test diseñado por la doctora Florence L. Goodenough, Dale B. Harris, de la Universidad del Estado de Pennsylvania, mantiene la idea fundamental defendida por la doctora Goodenough, reordenando algunos aspectos de la investigación original y adaptándola a los últimos estudios de psicología del dibujo infantil. La estandarización del Test del dibujo de la figura humana ha quedado fijada sobre una muestra muy bien seleccionada de 50 niños y 50 niñas por cada grupo de edad, y su aplicación se ha extendido hasta los quince años y nueve meses. Asimismo, se han desarrollado formas alternativas al dibujo de un hombre, como el dibujo de una mujer y el de sí mismo. Se ha rectificado el sistema de puntaje y se han ampliado a 71 los ítems computados para la evaluación más perfecta de los dibujos. Por otra prte, los criterios más recientes de medición de la inteligencia han asegurado la validez y la fiabilidad del test. Finalmente, se han obtenido unas tablas de conversión de los puntajes brutos basadas en la media y la desviación estándar de todos los resultados computados, abandonándose las que se basaban en la edadmental. Sin perder su simplicidad y valor originales, el Test de Goodenough obtiene de este modo una actualización que le confiere un nuevo impulso y una fundamentación más sólida.
