Assessment Of Authentic Performance In School Mathematics written by Richard A. Lesh and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-03 with Education categories.

This book is the result of a conference sponsored by the Educational Testing Service and the University of Wisconsin's National Center for Research in Mathematical Sciences Education. The purpose of the conference was to facilitate the work of a group of scholars whose interests included the assessment of higher-order understandings and processes in foundation-level (pre-high school) mathematics. Discussions focused on such issues as the purposes of assessment, guidelines for producing and scoring "real-life" assessment activities, and the meanings of such terms as "deeper and higher-order understanding," "cognitive objectives," and "authentic mathematical activities." Assessment was viewed as a critical component of complex, dynamic, and continually adapting educational systems. During the time that the chapters in this book were being written, sweeping changes in mathematics education were being initiated in response to powerful recent advances in technology, cognitive psychology, and mathematics, as well as to numerous public demands for educational reform. These changes have already resulted in significant reappraisals of what it means to understand mathematics, of the nature of mathematics teaching and learning, and of the real-life situations in which mathematics is useful. The challenge was to pursue assessment-related initiatives that are systematically valid, in the sense that they work to complement and enhance other improvements in the educational system rather than act as an impediment to badly needed curriculum reforms. To address these issues, most chapters in this book focus on clarifying and articulating the goals of assessment and instruction, and they stress the content of assessment above its mode of delivery. Computer- or portfolio-based assessments are interpreted as means to ends, not as ends in themselves. Assessment is conceived as an ongoing documentation process, seamless with instruction, whose quality hinges upon its ability to provide complete and appropriate information as needed to inform priorities in instructional decision making. This book tackles some of the most complicated issues related to assessment, and it offers fresh perspectives from leaders in the field--with the hope that the ultimate consumer in the instruction/assessment enterprise, the individual student, will reclaim his or her potential for self-directed mathematics learning.

An Analysis Of The Finite Element Method written by Gilbert Strang and has been published by Wellesley-Cambridge Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-08 with Mathematics categories.

This second edition has two parts. The first part is the complete classic by Gilbert Strang and George Fix, first published in 1973. The original book demonstrates the solid mathematical foundation of the finite element idea, and the reasons for its success. The second part is a new textbook by Strang. It provides examples, codes, and exercises to connect the theory of the Finite Element Method directly to the applications. The reader will learn how to assemble the stiffness matrix K and solve the finite element equations KU=F. Discontinuous Galerkin methods with a numerical flux function are now included. Strang's approach is direct and focuses on learning finite elements by using them.

Italian Mathematics Between The Two World Wars written by Angelo Guerraggio and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-20 with Mathematics categories.

This book describes Italian mathematics in the period between the two World Wars. It analyzes the development by focusing on both the interior and the external influences. Italian mathematics in that period was shaped by a colorful array of strong personalities who concentrated their efforts on a select number of fields and won international recognition and respect in an incredibly short time. Consequently, Italy was considered a third mathematical power after France and Germany.

Finite Elements And Approximation written by O. C. Zienkiewicz and has been published by Courier Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

A powerful tool for the approximate solution of differential equations, the finite element is extensively used in industry and research. This book offers students of engineering and physics a comprehensive view of the principles involved, with numerous illustrative examples and exercises. Starting with continuum boundary value problems and the need for numerical discretization, the text examines finite difference methods, weighted residual methods in the context of continuous trial functions, and piecewise defined trial functions and the finite element method. Additional topics include higher order finite element approximation, mapping and numerical integration, variational methods, and partial discretization and time-dependent problems. A survey of generalized finite elements and error estimates concludes the text.

Synchronous Generators written by Ion Boldea and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Synchronous Generators, the first of two volumes in the Electric Generators Handbook, offers a thorough introduction to electrical energy and electricity generation, including the basic principles of electric generators. The book devotes a chapter to the most representative prime mover models for transients used in active control of various generators. Then, individual chapters explore large- and medium-power synchronous generator topologies, steady state, modeling, transients, control, design, and testing. Numerous case studies, worked-out examples, sample results, and illustrations highlight the concepts. Fully revised and updated to reflect the last decade’s worth of progress in the field, this Second Edition adds new sections that: Discuss high-power wind generators with fewer or no permanent magnets (PMs) Cover PM-assisted DC-excited salient pole synchronous generators Present multiphase synchronous machine inductances via the winding function method Consider the control of autonomous synchronous generators Examine additional optimization design issues Illustrate the optimal design of a large wind generator by the Hooke–Jeeves method Detail the magnetic equivalent circuit population-based optimal design of synchronous generators Address online identification of synchronous generator parameters Explain the small-signal injection online technique Explore line switching (on or off) parameter identification for isolated grids Describe synthetic back-to-back load testing with inverter supply The promise of renewable, sustainable energy rests on our ability to design innovative power systems that are able to harness energy from a variety of sources. Synchronous Generators, Second Edition supplies state-of-the-art tools necessary to design, validate, and deploy the right power generation technologies to fulfill tomorrow's complex energy needs.

Elements of Psycho-Analysis is a 20-chapter text that describes the phenomena whose various aspects can be seen to fall within the grid categories of psycho-analysis. The elements of psycho-analysis are ideas and feelings as represented by their setting in a single grid-category. The opening chapters deal with the psychoanalytic objects, which are associations and interpretations with extensions in the domain of sense, myth, and passion. The remaining chapters are extensive discussions of the psychoanalytic phenomena, including ideas, feelings, pain, association and interpretation, conflicting pairs, and the two axes of grid. This book is directed primarily to psycho-analysts and psychiatrists.
