La transición formal en Chile ocurrió el 11 de marzo de 1990 pero, desde esa fecha y hasta fines de 2019, se desenvolvió otro ciclo político —más extenso y sinuoso— que requiere ser explicado y entendido. La transición inacabada alude a la decisión deliberada de los actores políticos de evitar referirse a los mínimos necesarios para convivir en comunidad. ¿Por qué, entonces, de pronto se aceptó revisar aquellos mínimos y establecer una nueva Constitución? ¿Por qué si durante tanto tiempo se convivió con el fantasma de la Constitución de 1980, de pronto se acepta reemplazarla? ¿Fue tan solo un acto de temor a la protesta de la calle de aquellos agitados meses de 2019? En este libro se ensaya una mirada multicausal para explicar los factores que gatillaron aquel inédito proceso que se desencadenó el 18 de octubre de 2019. Así, se abordan los cambios en las relaciones de poder y la secuencia de reformas institucionales que gatillaron y dinamizaron el activismo social durante tres décadas. A lo anterior se suma el rol gravitante que jugaron intelectuales públicos que contribuyeron sustantivamente a demarcar nuevos cursos de acción. La lectura de este volumen invita observar que no resulta fortuito que Chile se encuentre envuelto en un proceso de revisión de las bases de su convivencia política y social. A partir de un sistemático examen del proceso político chileno se muestra cómo ciertas fuerzas estructurales —políticas e institucionales— y determinados agentes de cambio hicieron posible que hoy intentemos responder una pregunta básica pero esencial: cómo queremos organizar nuestra convivencia política y social.

Este volumen recoge las ponencias que se impartieron en el curso extraordinario de la Universidad de Zaragoza titulado El «continuum» románico. La transición entre las lenguas románicas, la intercomprensión y las variedades lingüísticas de frontera, celebrado en Jaca en julio de 2020. Cuando se habla de frontera lingüística, se piensa en barreras y, para marcar esa acotación, se recurre al trazado de isoglosas, esas líneas imaginarias con las que se señala el límite de un fenómeno lingüístico determinado. Cuando varias isoglosas discurren próximas, constituyen un haz que permite dibujar la frontera entre dos subdialectos, dos dialectos o incluso dos lenguas. Sin embargo, esas fronteras lingüísticas pueden ser en ocasiones difusas, y esta suele ser la tónica general en el continuum románico, de manera que, en un ambiente de total intercomprensión, se percibe un tránsito lingüístico que en ocasiones se materializa en las llamadas variedades dialectales de frontera. Dentro de este marco, y dentro del espacio geográfico de la península ibérica, se presenta en este volumen la realidad lingüística que pervive en aquellas zonas de transición en las que confluyen o han confluido dos o más lenguas románicas distintas, con el fin de profundizar en el conocimiento de esas hablas híbridas que en ocasiones son de difícil adscripción lingüística.
