Two years ago, in the summer of 2016, my family and I traveled to Yanbian, China. Once there, we volunteered at an orphanage dedicated to the Joseonjok children, ethnic Koreans with Chinese citizenships, in the area. I signed up to teach English, and in class, I realized that most of the children knew either Chinese or Korean. There were very few who knew both languages though. The English textbook however, had only translations in Korean, which made teaching English difficult to the kids who only knew Chinese.After I returned to the United States, I started the search for a textbook in which all three languages were included, but I came up empty-handed. Then, I got the idea of writing my own English textbook with both Korean and Chinese translations. I hope this book will be a great help to the children I met at the orphanage and other Joseonjok kids.
