The Little Black Book of Decision Making delves into the cognition behind decision making, guiding you through the different ways your mind approaches various scenarios. You'll learn to notice that decision making is a matter of balance between your rational side and your intuition – the trick is in honing your intuition to steer you down the right path. Pure reasoning cannot provide all of the answers, and relying solely on intuition could prove catastrophic in business. There must be a balance between the two, and the proportions may change with each situation. This book helps you quickly pinpoint the right mix of logic and 'gut feeling,' and use it to find the best possible solution. Balance logic and intuition in your decision making approach Avoid traps set by the mind's inherent bias Understand the cognitive process of decision making Sharpen your professional judgement in any situation Decision making is the primary difference between organisations that lead and those that struggle. The Little Black Book of Decision Making helps you uncover errors in thinking before they become errors in judgement.

Let's start with a definition of decision-making. Selecting decisions is exactly what it sounds like: the act or process of making choices. We make logical decisions on occasion, but we also make emotional, irrational, and perplexing ones on a regular basis. Every day, we are confronted with events that force us to make decisions. Some of these decisions are simple, while others might be challenging. Simple decisions include things like what to wear; most individuals choose what to wear based on the season of the year, the weather of the day, and where they plan to go. Other simple decisions include what to eat, which movie to see, and which television shows to watch. The most difficult decisions appear to be those that need a higher level of thought. Things like where to go to college, what job route to take, and whether or not to marry and establish a family are examples of difficult decisions. These decisions are difficult because they affect our entire lives; they form who we are and how we will live in the future. Good decision-making is a skill that must be taught. It is not something we are born with, but rather a step-by-step process that is usually learned via life experience. Most adults are aware that experience is a costly, ineffective teacher who teaches more bad habits than good; and because decisions differ so dramatically from one situation to the next, the experience gained from making one important decision is frequently of little or no use when faced with a new decision-making challenge.

Decisionscape written by Elspeth Kirkman and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-19 with Psychology categories.

How thinking like an artist can improve our decision making and provide the perspective necessary to make better choices. Why are so many of our decisions regrettable, and what can we do about it? Decisionscape maps the surprising ways that our decisions are influenced and how thinking like an artist can help us deliberately arrange our perspective to make better choices. Introducing the concept of a “decisionscape,” Elspeth Kirkman blends art and science with insights from moral philosophy, sports, geopolitics, and elsewhere to explore decision making in a refreshingly original way. A broadly appealing and relatable book, Decisionscape asks us to confront the prejudices, blind spots, and hypocrisy in our day-to-day thinking. When we make choices, Kirkman explains, we act like an artist arranging objects on a canvas, using our system of perspective to compose a mental representation of the world. This decisionscape includes a foreground and background, a frame, a fixed viewpoint, and outside influences. Organized into four parts that unpack a different facet of the book’s organizing principle, Decisionscape shows how psychological distance dictates what we prioritize and diminish, how the big picture can often look different from its parts, how culture and context frame decisions, and how personal worldviews alter how we interpret information. Complex, timely, and breezy, Decisionscape addresses one of the most fundamental human experiences: making better decisions to live our best life.

Straight Choices written by Ben R. Newell and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-20 with Psychology categories.

Straight Choices provides a fascinating introduction to the psychology of decision making, enhanced by discussion of relevant examples of decision problems faced in everyday life. Thoroughly revised and updated throughout, this edition provides an integrative account of the psychology of decision-making and shows how psychological research can help us understand our uncertain world. The book emphasizes the relationship between learning and decision-making, arguing that the best way to understand how and why decisions are made is in the context of the learning and knowledge acquisition which precedes them, and the feedback which follows. The mechanisms of learning and the structure of environments in which decisions are made are carefully examined to explore their impact on our choices. The authors then consider whether we are all constrained to fall prey to cognitive biases, or whether, with sufficient exposure, we can find optimal decision strategies and improve our decision making. This edition highlights advances made in judgment and decision making research, with additional coverage of behavioral insights, nudging, artificial intelligence, and explanation-based decision making. Written in a non-technical manner, this book is an essential read for all students and researchers in cognitive psychology, behavioral economics, and the decision sciences, as well as anyone interested in the nature of decision making.
