Polenreisen waren nach 1945 Fahrten in ein meist unbekanntes "Ostblockland", das auf tragische Weise eng mit der deutschen Vergangenheit verknüpft ist. Corinna Felsch ist es gelungen, eine umfangreiche Sammlung privater Reiseberichte zusammenzutragen, die sehr unterschiedlich motivierte Polenreisen dokumentieren. Die Autorin zeigt auf, welche Bedeutung die Vergangenheit bei der Begegnung mit dem Land und seiner Bevölkerung hatte und wie sich die Reise auf die Geschichtsbilder der Reisenden auswirkte. Es gelingt ihr, auf die Ebene individueller Wahrnehmungen und Bewertungen der Vergangenheit vorzustoßen. Dabei wird deutlich, in welchem Maße die Geschichtswahrnehmungen der Reisenden in Polen durch vorgängige deutsche Diskurszusammenhänge geprägt wurden. Trotz starker Abweichungen von den polnischen Geschichtsbildern erlebten die Reisenden eine Thematisierung der Vergangenheit im Kontakt mit der polnischen Bevölkerung zumeist als unproblematisch, ja versöhnend; abweichende Geschichtsinterpretationen wurden von ihnen übersehen. Die Studie zeigt, dass die unterschiedlichen Geschichtsbilder von sehr begrenzter Bedeutung und Wirkung für die je gegenwärtige und gegenwartsbezogene Entwicklung der privaten deutsch-polnischen Beziehungen sind.

This volume presents research from an international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral research project in which 15 doctoral researchers explored a range of issues related to the life-course experiences of children born of war in 20th-century conflicts. Children Born of War (CBOW), children fathered by foreign soldiers and born to local mothers during and after armed conflicts, have long been neglected in the research of the social consequences of war. Based on research projects completed under the auspices of the Horizon2020-funded international and interdisciplinary research and training network CHIBOW (www.chibow.org), this book examines the psychological and social impact of war on these children. It focusses on three separate but interrelated themes: firstly, it explores methodological and ethical issues related to research with war-affected populations in general and children born of war in particular. Secondly, it presents innovative historical research focussing specifically on geopolitical areas that have hitherto been unexplored; and thirdly, it addresses, from a psychological and psychiatric perspective, the challenges faced by children born of war in post-conflict communities, including stigmatisation, discrimination, within the significant context of identity formation when faced with contested memories of volatile post-war experiences. The book offers an insight into the social consequences of war for those children associated with the ‘enemy’ by virtue of their direct biological link.

English summary: The dowry (in Islamic law mahr) is a key figure of classical Islamic marriage law, which was adopted in all Islamic countries. Nadjma Yassari investigates the basis of this legal institution, traces its historical development and contextualized it in the family estate law of Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and Tunisia. Although the legal connections between spouses have been steadily cultivated, the appeal of marriage law is fairly weak: the solidarity of newlyweds has hardly had time to be firmly established; important social pecuniary exchanges have not occurred. The dowry, therefore, still plays an important role in closing of any existing gaps in payment. This insight forms in consequence the basis for a location of the dowry in legal conflicts as well as for its integration in German family law. German description: Die Brautgabe (mahr) ist eine Schlusselfigur des klassischen islamischen Eherechts, die von allen islamischen Landern rezipiert worden ist.
