This book brings together a valuable collection of case studies and conceptual approaches that outline the present state of Amazonia in the 21st century. The many problems are described and the benefits, as well as the achievements of regional development are also discussed. The book focuses on three themes for discussion and recommendations: indigenous peoples, their home (the forest), and the way(s) to protect and sustain their natural home (biodiversity conservation). Using these three themes this volume offers a comprehensive critical review of the facts that have been the reality of Amazonia and fills a gap in the literature. The book will appeal to scholars, professors and practitioners. An outstanding group of experienced researchers and individuals with detailed knowledge of the proposed themes have produced chapters on an array of inter-related issues to demonstrate the current situation and future prospects of Amazonia. Issues investigated and debated include: territorial management; indigenous territoriality and land demarcation; ethnodevelopment; indigenous higher education and capacity building; natural resource appropriation; food security and traditional knowledge; megadevelopmental projects; indigenous acculturation; modernization of Amazonia and its regional integration; anthropogenic interventions; protected areas and conservation; political ecology; postcolonial issues, and the sustainability of Amazonia.

Hitler S Second Book written by Adolf Hitler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06 with categories.

A new translation of the Nazi leader's second book, unpublished in his lifetime, on foreign affairs and other matters. Translated into English, introduced and now with over 90 footnotes contextualizing and explaining references in the text for the present-day reader. Written in 1928 at the height of a political crisis between Fascist Italy and Weimar Germany over the region of South Tyrol, Hitler meant this book as an explanation of his position on that matter-namely that friendship with Italy was more important than German control over the region. The manuscript however quickly expanded into a general overview of what German foreign policy should be and then expounded on some other ideas from his first book, "Mein Kampf." Before the book could be published, Hitler and his party were plunged into a series of elections which lasted deep into 1932, and, which ultimately resulted in his coming to power in January 1933. There was then no need for the book to be published, and only two copies of the draft remained, one in Hitler's safe in Berchtesgaden and another in the safe of his Munich publisher. It was the latter manuscript which was seized by American forces at the end of the Second World War, and which ended up being misclassified as a draft of his first book until 1958, when an alert American archivist realized it was the infamous missing "second book." Topics covered in this book include: The South Tyrol question; Peace and war as means of waging the struggle; Morality of conquest; Export trade vanishing as other nations modernize; Weapons on hand no gauge of national strength-National will the decisive factor; Leadership superior to mass democracy; Ideas valueless unless translated into action; German colonial policy a blunder, led to conflict with England; America has upset balance of power; American racial immigration policies; Italy promising as German ally; and much more. Also contains in a new appendix the article "How America Entered the War," by F.W. Elven, correspondent of the "Münchener Neuesten Nachrichten," June 1928, to which Hitler referred in the body of the manuscript and which he intended to be added to the book.

La Patria Del Criollo written by Severo Martínez Peláez and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-05-15 with History categories.

This translation of Severo Martínez Peláez’s La Patria del Criollo, first published in Guatemala in 1970, makes a classic, controversial work of Latin American history available to English-language readers. Martínez Peláez was one of Guatemala’s foremost historians and a political activist committed to revolutionary social change. La Patria del Criollo is his scathing assessment of Guatemala’s colonial legacy. Martínez Peláez argues that Guatemala remains a colonial society because the conditions that arose centuries ago when imperial Spain held sway have endured. He maintains that economic circumstances that assure prosperity for a few and deprivation for the majority were altered neither by independence in 1821 nor by liberal reform following 1871. The few in question are an elite group of criollos, people of Spanish descent born in Guatemala; the majority are predominantly Maya Indians, whose impoverishment is shared by many mixed-race Guatemalans. Martínez Peláez asserts that “the coffee dictatorships were the full and radical realization of criollo notions of the patria.” This patria, or homeland, was one that criollos had wrested from Spaniards in the name of independence and taken control of based on claims of liberal reform. He contends that since labor is needed to make land productive, the exploitation of labor, particularly Indian labor, was a necessary complement to criollo appropriation. His depiction of colonial reality is bleak, and his portrayal of Spanish and criollo behavior toward Indians unrelenting in its emphasis on cruelty and oppression. Martínez Peláez felt that the grim past he documented surfaces each day in an equally grim present, and that confronting the past is a necessary step in any effort to improve Guatemala’s woes. An extensive introduction situates La Patria del Criollo in historical context and relates it to contemporary issues and debates.
