Ziel der Arbeit soll es sein, einen Ausblick zu geben, ob sich der Einsatz virtueller Teams für Unternehmen lohnt und ob Teammitglieder von der Arbeit in virtuellen Teams profitieren können oder nicht. Durch den zunehmenden technischen Fortschritt, aber auch durch die COVID-19 Pandemie hat das Arbeiten in virtuellen Teams in den letzten Jahren stark zugenommen. In einigen Branchen werden sie immer mehr zum Standard. Die erstmalige Etablierung virtueller Teams kann tiefe Einschnitte in bestehende Unternehmensprozesse bedeuten und nicht jedes Unternehmen fühlt sich diesem Schritt gewachsen. Doch gerade die Pandemie hat gezeigt, dass viele Unternehmen zumindest bereit zu sein scheinen, sich auf einen Wandel einzulassen.

Um diesem Druck standzuhalten, haben Unternehmen die Möglichkeiten und Potenziale, der organisationsübergreifenden Zusammenarbeit erkannt. Dadurch werden zunehmend Unternehmensaufgaben in virtuellen Arbeitsformen bearbeitet. Denn durch virtuell vernetzte Teams entfalteten sich neue Effizienzpotenziale für Unternehmen. Es schafft Flexibilität und Effizienz. Der Gewinn von Flexibilität, stellt eins der elementaren Gründe für die Zusammenarbeit auf Distanz da. Und seit der eingetroffenen Corona-Krise, sind Unternehmen gezwungen, auf die digitale Zusammenarbeit umzusteigen. Diese veränderten Rahmenbedingungen stellt Führungskräfte vor neue Herausforderungen. Wie werden Führungskräfte diesen neuen Anforderungen auf technischer und persönlicher Ebene gerecht? Welche Fähigkeiten braucht die Führungskraft von Morgen? Denn virtuelle Teams sind die Arbeitsform der Zukunft. Diese haben das Potenzial traditionelle Arbeitsformen nachhaltig zu ersetzen. Zu Beginn dieser Arbeit werden die Eigenschaften und Merkmale von virtuellen Teams erläutert. Darauf aufbauend, erfolgt eine Abgrenzung zu traditionellen Teams. Anschließend werden bestehenden Potenziale und Herausforderungen der virtuellen Teamführung näher betrachten, um für den Hauptteil - Virtuelle Teams führen - zu sensibilisieren. Denn Führung auf Distanz bedarf eine andere Herangehensweise. Im Hauptteil erfolgt zunächst eine Auflistung von den Aufgaben und den Schlüsselkompetenzen, die Führungskräfte benötigen, um erfolgreich virtuelle Teams zu führen. Gleichzeitig sollen in dieser Hausarbeit die Dynamiken von virtuellen Teams in der Teamentwicklung abgebildet und auf die einzelnen Herausforderungen in den einzelnen Phasen eingegangen werden. Das dient dazu, ein tieferes Verständnis für die Lebensphasen virtueller Teams zu bekommen, denn jedes Team ist von diesen Dynamiken und Entwicklungen betroffen. Abschließend wird auf die drei wichtigsten Kernelemente Vertrauen, Kommunikation und Motivation eingegangen, da mit diesen Elementen, der Teamerfolg steigt oder fällt.
