Lost Fighters written by William G. Holder and has been published by SAE International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with History categories.

This book, by Bill Holder, discusses the "Lost Fighter" turbojet and turboprop propulsion systems of the exciting jet fighter era in the United States since the mid-1940s. Until now, very little has been published about these fascinating fighter activities that, for a variety of reasons, did not reach fruition. Covering fighters that did not reach beyond an artist's concept stage, to those that were cancelled after an evaluation of flight capabilities, to others that were cast aside after losing a fly-off competition, this book makes use of previously unpublished, primary-source material. It provides a coherent picture of U.S. jet fighter development and evolution. This book also includes hundreds of photos, drawings, and illustrations of the many "Lost Fighters."

Wings That Stay On written by Edward V. Coggins and has been published by Turner Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Technology & Engineering categories.

From the Preface: This book was required. As a former professor of military history at the American Military University (AMU) and a retired USAF Colonel, I wanted to teach a course on the effects of fighter aviation in war. In addition, I wanted to create a course that was a "hands-on" approach to fighter aviation history. Having flown USAF fighters for more than 20 years, I felt I had a good working knowledge of fighter aviation, but when I researched the subject I found I would have to ask my students to read scores of books to provide the background they would need. There was no "single-source" book that covered everything I wanted to cover. I determined to write that book. I wanted to write a straightforward book in plain language that would not bore fighter pilots and at the same time that would be simple enough to be attractive to laymen as well as air power historians. That is what I have done, I have covered some detailed thoughts about fighter flying in what Southern Americans might call "biscuits and gravy" language. The overriding premise of the text, is that the fighter has been the key element in the air power equation and continues in that role today although this role may be changing with the advent of good, reliable, beyond visual range air-to-air missies. This view has not been universally held over the years; however, it is a view that has been held by fighter pilots since the advent of the fighter. More and more historians are beginning to support this view. Table of Contents: World War I; Fighter Development Between Wars; The Air Wars Between World Wars; Fighter Development In World War II; The Korean War; The Fighter In The Vietnam War; The Arab-Israeli Wars; The India-Pakistani Conflicts; The Air War In The Falklands; Soviet Experience In Afghanistan; The Persian Gulf War; The Future; Summary And Conclusions.\; Appendices Definitions.

Paul Garrigan is not a typical fighter. As a child he dreamt of imitating his hero Bruce Lee, he even practiced Kung Fu for a number of years, but he never got past his fear of being hit in the face. By the time he reached his twenties the only fighting he was doing involved a battle with alcoholism. Garrigan turned from a ten stone weakling in his teens to an overweight alcoholic in his thirties, but the desire to practice a martial art never left him. He ended up living in Thailand where the fiercest of all martial arts is practiced – Muay Thai. Eventually he managed to find his way out of addiction and even though he was now in his forties he decided to pursue his martial art dreams. In Muay Thai Fighter we get to see what happens when a middle-aged ex-drunk decides to learn the toughest fighting art in the world. Garrigan wasn’t expecting it to be easy, but could never have anticipated how demanding the training was going to be. It brought him to levels of physical and mental pain that he never guessed existed. A famous saying in martial arts is that the only person you are really fighting is the person you were yesterday. This is the inspiring tale of how we can all still achieve our dreams no matter how much we have messed up in life.

St-Pierre is two-time and current champion of the UFC's most desired and hotly contested weight class. He has forced other fighters to go to great lengths in an effort to unseat him. But he's more than that. He's ramping up the popularity of the sport itself and the culture around it. St-Pierre is a marketer's dream. He's handsome, charismatic and funny in a self-effacing way. He's Canadian, fluently bilingual, came up from a difficult background with a few personal tragedies and has never been involved with drugs or crime or had his love life make any headlines. He's the man that the UFC is going to ride on in its quest to transform itself from niche market to mainstream. It's already beginning. While other UFC fighters have sponsors like gyms and equipment suppliers, St-Pierre has signed multi-million-dollar deals with brands such as Under Armour and is even following in the footsteps of such luminaries as Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning and Sidney Crosby as a spokesman for Gatorade. Fighter details the life of St-Pierre: how his talent, hard work and perseverance have paid off handsomely, and how his star has risen in the psyche of mixed martial arts fans around the world. It describes how he is held in high esteem by a huge number of Canadians despite the fact that his profession is looked down upon by many and is even illegal in several US States and Canadian Provinces. St-Pierre's ascent and fame have become a democratizing force, pressuring the establishment to take Mixed Martial Arts and Ultimate Fighting seriously in ways that it would not have without him.

The Fighter written by Tim Parks and has been published by Harvill Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Literary Collections categories.

One of Britain's outstanding novelists, Tim Parks has also published two acclaimed essay collections, Adultery and Other Diversions and Hell and Back. This new volume finds him as provocative and entertaining as ever. The title piece addresses D.H. Lawrence's fundamental belligerence and how all the significant relationships in his life, including those with his readers and critics, were characterized by intense intimacy and ferocious conflict. Elsewhere there are literary essays on tension and conflict in the work of Beckett and Hardy, Bernhard and Dostoevsky, amongst others. Parks is also known for his acerbic chronicles of Italian life and here are essays on Mussolini, Macchiavelli and the Medici. Besides discussing questions of history, politics and literature, The Fighter also takes on the serious issue of World Cup football.
