Rosemary For Remembrance written by Anne P. Stewart and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Anti-war poetry categories.

This small collection of poems in Rosemary for Remembrance relating to the two world wars began after an emotional visit to the D-Day landing sites and surrounding areas in both France and Belgium. It is a personal tribute to those who served in the world wars with each poem relating to an anniversary or personal thoughts after reading and witnessing various battle sites, where so much destruction and loss of life took place, which so often begs the question why and for whose gain? Each poem includes a background to how each poem evolved. It is also an acknowledgement of a long-standing friendship between a French girl and an English girl through a school exchange, encouraged by their respective fathers, who each served in and survived both world wars.

Against Remembrance written by David Rieff and has been published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-01 with Social Science categories.

In Against Remembrance, David Rieff provocatively argues that the business of remembrance, particularly of the great tragedies of the past, are policitised events of highly selective memory. Rather than ending injustices, as we expect it to, collective memory in so many cases dooms us to an endless cycle of vengeance. Humanity, he says, simply cannot cope with the true ambivalence of historical events. And if we remember only partially, how can our memories serve us, or our society, as well as we hope?

She thinks she has put the ghosts of her past behind her. But then Hayley's favorite doll reappears, strange murders rock the Webbs' small town, Caroline even claims she has heard the voice of the little girl she lost all those years ago. The Arts Of Remembrance In Early Modern England written by Andrew Gordon and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

The early modern period inherited a deeply-ingrained culture of Christian remembrance that proved a platform for creativity in a remarkable variety of forms. From the literature of church ritual to the construction of monuments; from portraiture to the arrangement of domestic interiors; from the development of textual rites to drama of the contemporary stage, the early modern world practiced 'arts of remembrance' at every turn. The turmoils of the Reformation and its aftermath transformed the habits of creating through remembrance. Ritually observed and radically reinvented, remembrance was a focal point of the early modern cultural imagination for an age when beliefs both crossed and divided communities of the faithful. The Arts of Remembrance in Early Modern England maps the new terrain of remembrance in the post-Reformation period, charting its negotiations with the material, the textual and the performative.

A Quest For Remembrance written by Madeleine Scherer and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-20 with Literary Criticism categories.

A Quest for Remembrance: The Underworld in Classical and Modern literature brings together a range of arguments exploring connections between the descent into the underworld, also known as katabasis, and various forms of memory. Its chapters investigate the uses of the descent topos both in antiquity and in the reception of classical literature in the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. In the process, the volume explores how the hero’s quest into the underworld engages with the theme of recovering memories from the past. At the same time, we aim to foreground how the narrative format itself is concerned with forms of commemoration ranging from trans-cultural memory, remembering the literary and intellectual canon, to commemorating important historical events that might otherwise be forgotten. Through highlighting this duality this collection aims to introduce the descent narrative as its own literary genre, a ‘memorious genre’ related to but distinct from the quest narrative.

Phantoms Of Remembrance written by Patrick J. Geary and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-13 with History categories.

In Phantoms of Remembrance, Patrick Geary makes important new inroads into the widely discussed topic of historical memory, vividly evoking the everyday lives of eleventh-century people and both their written and nonwritten ways of preserving the past. Women praying for their dead, monks creating and re-creating their archives, scribes choosing which royal families of the past to applaud and which to forget: it is from such sources that most of our knowledge of the medieval period comes. Throughout richly detailed descriptions of various acts of remembrance--including the naming of children and the recording of visions--the author unearths a wide range of approaches to preserving the past as it was or formulating the past that an individual or group prefers to imagine.
