Tagtaglich begegnen wir Katastrophenmeldungen uber Bodenverseuchung, Vergiftung von Nahrungsmitteln, Ozonloch, Treibhauseffekt usw.. Die Krise der Industriegesellschaft ist gekennzeichnet durch eine Marktsattigung, Ressourcenverknappung, Umweltzerstorung und Massenarbeitslosigkeit. Weinbrenner stellt ebenso die Frage, in welcher Weise Wirtschaft und Technik organisiert werden konnen, damit auch in Zukunft sichere und lebenswerte Existenzbedingungen fur die Menschen geschaffen werden konnen. Johannes Keppler: "Die Zukunft richtig vorauszusehen, war und ist seit jeher ein Wunsch der Menschheit. Nicht nur weil wir neugierig sind, sondern um richtige Entscheidungen treffen zu konnen, denn die Folgen dieser Entscheidungen liegen in der Zukunft." Aus diesem Grund unternimmt der Mensch viele Bemuhungen, um die Zukunft zu bestimmen. Manche sind weniger ernsthaft, andere zuverlassig. Contemporary sociology increasingly seems to be adopting a perspective similar to that on which Georg Simmel's analysis and interpretations rested. To a significant degree, therefore, sociologists continue to turn to Simmel for a basic understanding of the forms and processes of social life. Nicholas Spykman's The Social Theory of Georg Simmel, originally published in 1925, was the first comprehensive account of Simmel's ideas.
