À la genèse du GIGN : il y a 45 ans naissait une unité d'élite française aujourd'hui incontournable... Le 5 septembre 1972, la prise d'otages des Jeux olympiques de Munich révèle la montée en puissance d'une nouvelle forme de terrorisme à laquelle les forces de l'ordre ne sont guère préparées. Quelques mois plus tard, le 3 novembre 1973, vingt-cinq gendarmes sélectionnés sur dossier se présentent à Maisons-Alfort pour y passer des épreuves d'un genre nouveau afin d'intégrer le GIGN n°1, une unité d'élite de la gendarmerie que le jeune lieutenant Christian Prouteau a été chargé de mettre en place. Aucun d'entre eux ne sait vraiment ce qui l'attend, mais les dix-huit candidats retenus ne vont pas tarder à découvrir que leur patron exige d'eux l'impossible afin de pouvoir répondre aux situations les plus extrêmes. Ensemble, ils vont devoir tout inventer pour parvenir à un niveau opérationnel jamais atteint. Voici l'histoire sans fard des dix premières années du GIGN. L'histoire de dix-huit hommes au caractère bien trempé, menés par un chef atypique. En relevant le défi représenté par des missions de plus en plus complexes, ils vont aussi devoir convaincre quelques "gardiens du temple" résolument hostiles à l'existence même d'une unité d'élite au sein de la gendarmerie. Pour la première fois, les protagonistes ont accepté de livrer leur témoignages sur ces premières années déterminantes dans l'identité du GIGN. Un témoignage inédit sur les premières années du GIGN ! EXTRAIT Christian Prouteau travaille tard cette nuit-là. Devant l’ampleur de la tâche, l’enthousiasme des premières heures a cédé la place à la réflexion. Or, il faut le savoir, un militaire raisonne face à une mission comme on le lui a inculqué, en utilisant une méthode appelée « méthode de raisonnement tactique », sorte de panacée universelle qui prévaut à tous les échelons de la hiérarchie. Dans ce processus, on analyse tous les paramètres de la mission demandée : avec qui, contre qui, etc. Mais ce soir-là, Prouteau se rend compte qu’il lui faut sortir de l’épure. Ce qui lui est demandé n’a jamais été traité par aucun manuel ; il lui faut être innovant, inventif, et surtout iconoclaste. La seule chose dont il est sûr, c’est que le chemin ne va pas être facile. Sur ce point, il demeure encore largement en dessous de la vérité. Le moment est historique et les questions se pressent dans son esprit.
