Efraim S Book written by Alfred Andersch and has been published by New Directions Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Fiction categories.

Efraim's Book is the sophisticated, offbeat novel about the peculiar society of post-World-II Berlin. Its hero George Efraim is a Jewish reporter who has fought for the British on the Italian front and lost both parents to Auschwitz. He returns home to Berlin in 1962 for the first time since the war to investigate the wartime disappearance of his editor's daughter, only to begin writing a novel, which helps him "to embark on a certain arrangement of signs with the help of which I hope to chart my position." Like the great German novels of Günter Grass and Heinrich Böll, Alfred Andersch's Efraim's Book grapples with the legacy of World War II and the Holocaust in all its horror and sad humanity. A troubling yet often humorous book, it offers a poignant account of the traumatized German state.

Lesbian And Gay Parenting written by Yvette Taylor and has been published by Palgrave MacMillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-30 with Family & Relationships categories.

Much current work on lesbian and gay kinship still overlooks the significance of socio-economic status. This book explores the intersections between class and sexuality in lesbians' and gay men's experiences of parenting and the everyday pathways navigated therein, from initial routes into parenting and household divisions of labour, to location preferences, schooling choice and community supports. In a context of international legal changes, this study seeks to situate parents as both sexual and classed subjects, interrogating the relevance of class and sexual (dis)advantages. Frequently lesbian and gay families are positioned at the vanguard of transformations in intimacy while often empirically absent in such declarations: they are misplaced in this dual over-emphasis (as agents of social change) and sidelining (under-investigated when compared to the research on heterosexual families). This book utilizes the concept of social capital, combining a Bourdieusian notion of capital as specifically classed, alongside that evidenced in the 'families of choice' literature. The theoretical opposition of different frameworks of 'social capital' advances class conceptualisations, exploring too the ways that (middle) classed capitals sometimes do not pay off, as a result of occupying non-normative sexualities.

Land Ecology written by Isaak Samuel Zonneveld and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Business & Economics categories.

In this book Zonneveld notes what he heard himself telling his students during the last quarter of a century, and what he, his collaborators and students learned working together in the field on all continents and in all climates, from the marshes to the mountains, from the Arctic to the tropics, from the deserts to the rain forests, in empty areas and overcrowded ones. Zonneveld emphasizes an approach embracing the horizontal pattern as well as the systemic character of the land, from the limited site up to the scale of "Gaia". The binding element is the application of management and conservation of land as a "home range"; thus, land evaluation methodology and large area survey techniques based on sound landscape ecological principles, especially applicable in developing countries, are well represented in this book.
