Il profumo di Cipro è un percorso di ricerca sulla famiglia olfattiva legata al mito del fascino femminile che il “mondo occidentale” identificò nella divinità greca di Afrodite. La trasposizione del culto nella Venere italica definisce l’importanza del rito nel nome, che diventa sinonimo di atto di fede verso qualsiasi divinità. Il ruolo di Cipro nella storia del profumo è riassunto nel nome riconosciuto in una delle sette famiglie olfattive del mondo, lo stesso dato alla Cipria, cosmetico sopravvissuto al crollo dell’Impero Romano, noto in Europa come pulveri Ciprii. La scoperta delle officine di Pyrgos riporta al 2000 a.C. la produzione di questa proverbiale fragranza e il culto della divinità nella quale fu identificata. MARIA ROSARIA BELGIORNO è ricercatore associato presso l’ITABC-CNR, Ispettore Onorario MiBACT del Museo Preistorico L. Pigorini, Roma, presidente Ass. Cult. Armonia, Roma. Dal 1998 è responsabile delle indagini archeologiche e archeometriche sul sito preistorico di Pyrgos/Mavroraki a Cipro.
