La Cr�tica de la raz�n pura (en alem�n: Kritik der reinen Vernunft) es la obra principal del fil�sofo prusiano Immanuel Kant Tuvo su primera edici�n en 1781. El propio Kant lleg� a corregirla, publicando en 1787 una segunda edici�n. En las publicaciones habituales de la obra son presentadas ambas ediciones simult�neamente, conocidas respectivamente como A y B. Se trata de una indagaci�n trascendental (acerca de las condiciones epist�micas del conocer humano) cuyo objetivo central es lograr una respuesta definitiva sobre si la metaf�sica puede ser considerada una ciencia. En esta obra, Kant intenta la conjunci�n de racionalismo y empirismo, haciendo una cr�tica de las dos corrientes filos�ficas que se centraban en el objeto como fuente de conocimiento, y as�, dando un giro copernicano al modo de concebir la filosof�a, estudiando al sujeto como la fuente que construye el conocimiento. En s�ntesis, La Cr�tica de la raz�n pura es una obra clave de la filosof�a moderna, que inaugura lo que Kant denomina idealismo trascendental. Entre las resistencias que encontr� la obra se puede citar que P�o VIII, antes de llegar a papa cat�lico, como prefecto de la Congregaci�n del �ndice prohibi� bajo amenaza de excomuni�n la lectura de la Cr�tica de la raz�n pura (decreto del 8 de julio de 1827). Kant, a quien tambi�n le fue ordenado no volver a publicar m�s sobre temas de teolog�a,5 ya hab�a previsto situaciones de este tipo cuando en el mismo pr�logo de la Cr�tica se�ala lo siguiente, pese a que era un cristiano convencido: "Todo ha de someterse a la cr�tica. Pero la religi�n y la legislaci�n pretenden de ordinario escapar a la misma. La religi�n a causa de su santidad, y la legislaci�n a causa de su majestad. Sin embargo, al hacerlo, despiertan contra s� mismas sospechas justificadas y no pueden exigir un respeto sincero, respeto que la raz�n s�lo concede a lo que es capaz de resistir su examen libre y p�blico." Absolutamente es una obra de lectura obligatoria para entender las claves de la filosof�a moderna.

Este bello texto del gran filósofo y pensador Immanuel Kant es quizás uno de esos imprescindibles para aquel que afirme ser arquitecto o artista, aquel que en algún momento le eche un pulso a la belleza. Con el título de «Observaciones sobre el sentimiento de lo bello y lo sublime» publicó Kant en Komgsbey (1764) este ensayo de vario y atrayente contenido. Numerosas ediciones sueltas se han hecho de este encantador tratadito, sin contar las varias ediciones de las obras completas del autor. Más que de estética, en el sentido estricto de la palabra, tratan las «Observaciones sobre el sentimiento de lo bello y lo sublime» de asuntos varios, moral, psicología, descripción de los caracteres individuales y nacionales; en suma, de toda suerte de temas interesantes que pueden ocurrirse alrededor del asunto principal. Está escrito en estilo fácil y cómodo -extraña excepción en la obra de Kant-, lleno de ingenio, alegría, penetración, con una sencillez encantadora. Se comprende fácilmente que un crítico haya podido comparar a Kant -refiriéndose a esta obra- con «La Bruyère», el autor de los «Caracteres». En este ensayo es donde Kant ataca por primera vez el problema estético, y aunque sus ideas fundamentales acerca del arte y la belleza se hallan sistemáticamente expuestas en su obra posterior, la «Crítica del Juicio», tienen, sin embargo, las «Observaciones sobre el sentimiento de lo bello y lo sublime»cierto interés para el conocimiento de los orígenes de la estética kantiana. Pero sobre todo constituyen, como hemos dicho, una serie de delicadas ocurrencias, de certeras observaciones, de agudas críticas, sin el aparato solemne de la exposición didáctica.

Immanuel Kant ( Prusia, 22 de abril de 1724-ibídem, 12 de febrero de 1804) fue un filósofoprusiano de la Ilustración. Es el primero y más importante representante del criticismo y precursor del idealismo alemán y está considerado como uno de los pensadores más influyentes de la Europa moderna y de la filosofía universal. Entre sus escritos más destacados se encuentra la Crítica de la razón pura (Kritik der reinen Vernunft), calificada generalmente como un punto de inflexión en la historia de la filosofía y el inicio de la filosofía contemporánea. En ella se investiga la estructura misma de la razón. Asimismo se propone que la metafísica tradicional se puede reinterpretar a través de la epistemología, ya que podemos encarar problemas metafísicos cuando entendemos y relacionamos la fuente con los límites del conocimiento. Sus otras obras principales son la Crítica de la razón práctica, centrada en la ética; la Crítica del juicio, en la que investiga acerca de la estética y la teleología y La metafísica de las costumbres que tiene dos partes, una centrada en la ética, la doctrina de la virtud, y la otra centrada en el ius, la doctrina del derecho.
