Os investimentos públicos no desenvolvimento da inovação no país, quer por meio do financiamento das universidades públicas, quer por meio de editais de fomento, cresceram vertiginosamente nos últimos anos. Analisar a eficiência e eficácia da aplicação dos recursos públicos é, sobretudo em tempos de austeridade, primordial para o desenvolvimento de um país. Neste contexto, os pesquisadores deste livro objetivam identificar a influência dos investimentos públicos de fomento à inovação no grau de maturidade de inovação de empresas instaladas no Estado do Rio Grande Norte. Objetiva-se ainda identificar a influência regional, a partir do local de instalação – capital ou no interior, no desempenho das empresas estudadas no grau de inovação. Em relação à temática da inovação são apresentadas conceituações adicionais que auxiliam o leitor a uma maior compreensão, tais como: tipologia, graus de inovação, metodologias de avaliação e mecanismos de apoio à inovação. Na sequência é abordada a conceituação sobre a tríplice hélice, ressaltando os conceitos preconizados por Etzkowitz e Leydesdorff, Salomon e Silva e Ipiranga, Freitas e Paiva, entre outros. No tocante aos aspectos metodológicos, propõe-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, exploratória e explicativa de abordagem quanti-qualitativa, tendo como público-alvo o grupo de empresas atendidas pelo programa PRÓ-INOVA NAGI no ano de 2013. A pesquisa deverá proporcionar reflexões e compreensão da influência dos investimentos públicos em inovação, que por meio de variáveis qualitativas preditivas, associada ao método quantitativo, explicar quais variáveis são significativas na variação do grau de maturidade em inovação das empresas estudadas.

Since the early 2000s, state-led and innovation-focused strategies have characterized the approach to development pursued in countries around the world, such as China, India, and South Korea.
