Negotiating The Religious In Contemporary Everyday Life In The Islamic World written by Roman Loimeier and has been published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Islam categories.

The contributions to the present volume show that the countries that are often presented in the literature as forming part of a stereotypical and seemingly monolithic “Islamic world” in fact represent considerable diversity. From Iran to Senegal, we encounter a vast array of social and religious structures, historical trajectories, political regimes and relative positions of societies and individuals. We encounter also, in many different and often unexpected ways, the individual in multiple contexts. The present volume presents perspectives on everyday life in Muslim societies beyond the spectacular. From a broad academic background in Islamic and Iranian studies, social anthropology, sociology, philosophy and history, its contributors show that everyday life as well as religious practice in countries as diverse as Senegal, Niger, Egypt, Tunisia and Iran is not informed by one single “Islamic” tradition, but rather by multiple and often surprisingly different modes of religiosity and non-religiosity.

Communication Theory: Traditional and Contemporary Readings introduces students to foundational works in the discipline, yet includes the exciting contemporary research which is producing new knowledge about the way humans communicate. This anthology has a fresh approach to the Communication Theory survey class. Rather than giving the usual brief, broad overview of a large number of theories, readings in Communication Theory focus on traditional and contemporary touchstones that have made significant contributions to the field of communication. The book provides students with theoretical and methodological exemplars of communication research, and allows students to learn about these exemplars from the original sources. While focusing on specific readings and their impact on how communication is studied, the book takes an interdisciplinary approach to the actual reading selections. These include readings on rhetoric, media studies, interpersonal, small group and organizational communication. The material addresses topics ranging from relationship development to video-games. Selections include the work of Charles R. Berger, Richard J. Calabrese, Karlyn Kohrs Campbell, John Fiske, Marie Hochmuth Nicols, Sarah Tracey and Erik King Watts. Communication Theory: Traditional and Contemporary Readings gives students a well-rounded, thorough, and engaging introduction to the topic. Robert Alan Brookey Ph.D., University of Minnesota, is a Professor in the Department of Communication at Northern Illinois University where he teaches classes in rhetoric and media, as well as an Introduction to Communication Studies course for which this book is designed. He has published two books and over 25 articles and book chapters. His most recent book, Hollywood Gamers: Digital Convergence in the Film and Video Game Industries was published by Indiana University Press. He has served on the editorial boards of Critical Studies in Media Communication, The Journal of International and Intercultural Communication, and The Western Journal of Communication. Betty H. La France Ph.D., Michigan State University is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Northern Illinois University where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in communication theory, research, and interpersonal communication. She is a communication scientist whose expertise is in social influence. Her specific interest area is the way intimacy is communicated in interpersonal relationships including those of a sexual nature. This anthology is an expression of her expertise, as well as a re-envisioning of the applicability of communication theory in daily life. Her publications have appeared in academic journals such as Communication Monographs, Communication Quarterly, Southern Communication Journal, Communication Reports, and Communication Studies.

Semiotic Praxis written by Georges Mounin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-13 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Catherine Tihanyi Georges Mounin, an important figure in contemporary French intellec tual life, has made significant and original contributions in semiotics, I semantics, poetics, the linguistic theory and practice of translation, and the study of the history of linguistics. He is noted as well for several dec ades of literary criticism in support of poets who were often unknown at the time. Though some of his work has been translated into German, Ital ian, and Spanish, only a few articles have been available so far in English (Mounin 1974, 1976, 1980, 1981); thus the present collection is the first full-length volume of Mounin's works to be translated into English. The contents of Semiotic Praxis reflect Mounin's life-long concern to apply semiotic theory to concrete objects. In so doing, he has attempted to demonstrate the usefulness of semiotics, to test and clarify its theoretical constructs and modify them accordingly, and to help lay down its scientific foundations and map its boundaries as a discipline.

Individual Orientation In Education written by M. Reuchlin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Education categories.

When considering future trends in educational and vocational orientation we must constantly bear in mind, in as concrete a way as possible, that schools form an integral part of society as a whole. To point out that education and society are inseparable concepts has of course become almost a ritual statement in the majority of studies of future developments in education. All too often however "society" becomes an allegorical figure to which characteristics can be attributed varying with the tradition of thought adhered to by each writer. This figure is given a part to play in the plot which we are trying to unravel, but it remains allegorical. The theatre is furthermore closed to the public. Teachers and taught, pedagogic experts and philosophers of education, are alone together and share the functions of author, actors, producer, audience, and critics. To seek a better future for education is to try to improve the quality of a performance given in camera, to give each character a role which is most satisfying to the mind and above all to the emotions and in which the most noble sentiments can be expressed in the cause of the highest ideals. The theatri cal and gratuitous nature of university life, and lyrical statements about the future of the universities, were characteristic aspects of traditional frameworks.
