The highly commended First Edition of this four-volume set remains the standard reference on Jürgen Habermas, the key theorist of the Frankfurt School and one of the most influential theorists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. With Habermas having developed his oeuvre substantially in the last decade, this new edition retains the key secondary literature while refreshing the critical canon with the most important papers published since the First Edition in 2001. The editors, themselves a part of that canon, have updated the editorial material to reflect the latest hot topics in the study of this perennially relevant theorist.

Teacher Career Stages written by Peter J. Burke and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984 with Education categories.

Literature on adult life stages and career development is synthesized and placed within the perspective of a career cycle model for teachers as adult learners. The teacher career cycle is viewed as a progression affected by personal and environmental factors. The stages a teacher's career proceeds through (e.g., preservice, entry, growing, stable, exit) are described as not necessarily linear, but frequently cyclical. Scenarios are given of the cyclical development of four teachers, each of whom is required by circumstances to change or reverse directions to develop professionally. Implications for inservice education include: (1) Traditional inservice activities that emphasize improved teaching skills are appropriate at certain points in a teachers' career, particularly during skill-building periods; (2) The concept of staff development and professional growth should be broadened to include concern for personal needs and problems of teachers; (3) Organizational policies should provide support for teachers at various stages of the teacher career cycle; and (4) Approaches to staff development and professional growth should emphasize personalized, individualized support systems. Qualitative Research written by Sharon M. Ravitch and has been published by SAGE Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-28 with Education categories.

Focused on developing the conceptual, theoretical, and methodological knowledge needed to engage in rigorous and valid research, this introductory text provides practical explanations, exercises, and advice for how to conduct qualitative research—from design through implementation, analysis, and writing up research. Qualitative Research presents the field in a unique and meaningful way, and helps readers understand what authors Sharon M. Ravitch and Nicole Mittenfelner Carl call “criticality” in qualitative research by communicating its foundations and processes with clarity and simplicity while still capturing complexity. Packed with real-life examples of questions, issues, and situations that stem from the authors’ and their students’ research, the book humanizes the qualitative research endeavor, illustrates the types of scenarios that arise, and emphasizes the importance of actively considering paradigmatic values throughout every stage of the research process. In every chapter, the authors illustrate the qualitative research process as decidedly ideological, political, and subjective using themes of criticality, reflexivity, collaboration, and rigor.

The Relevance Of Education written by Jerome Bruner and has been published by W. W. Norton & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971-01-17 with Education categories.

"Education is in a state of crisis. It has failed to respond to changing social needs—lagging behind rather than leading." The crisis that Jerome Bruner identifies in this volume admits of no easy solutions. But the noted American psychologist makes clear that educational reform must begin with the understanding of how a child acquires information and converts knowledge into action. Drawing on his current work on infant development, Bruner underscores the importance of formulating educational strategies that expand rather than constrict the skills of the young learner. Since education takes place under conditions imposed by a technological society, Professor Bruner maintains that it is not enough to attempt reform through minor curriculum revisions. The program that fails to set knowledge within the context of action must be replaced. And to be truly relevant to our social needs, the scope of education must be extended toward overcoming the severe handicaps faced by children from impoverished areas.
