O projeto que abriu espaço para a elaboração deste livro teve origem numa iniciativa da Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics. No âmbito do programa de Mestrado em Gestão (MsC - Master of Science), foi lançado, no segundo semestre do ano letivo 2013/2014, um seminário de dissertação intitulado "International Strategy: FDI opportunities for German firms in Portugal". A ideia inicial era a de se desenvolverem alguns estudos de caso de diferentes indústrias e analisá-los sempre à luz da relação Portugal - Alemanha. Todavia, alguns alunos noruegueses mostraram interesse em estudar igualmente a relação Portugal - Noruega, algo que foi de imediato bem acolhido pela instituição. Os outputs desta obra são em grande parte resultado do esforço desses novos mestres em gestão de empresas que neste contexto desenvolveram as suas teses de mestrado (cada uma das quatro teses selecionadas constitui um capítulo desta obra - capítulos 3, a 6) com orientação por parte dos editores deste livro. A presente obra debruça-se sobre os investimentos diretos estrangeiros em Angola e sobre o impacto económico e social entre 2003 e 2013. O autor entende que o investimento direto estrangeiro (IDE) é reconhecido pelos vários estados como um dos pilares do desenvolvimento económico. Por esta razão, deve existir política de atração de investidores estrangeiros, sendo uma componente importante desta política a atribuição de incentivos fiscais, justificados pelas externalidades positivas que o investimento estrangeiro pode gerar no país. É fundamental que na atual conjuntura económica internacional Angola mostre capacidade para atrair ao seu território investimento direto estrangeiro que proporcione o desenvolvimento de novos clusters e melhore os sectores estratégicos, o que permitirá reabsorver a mão-de-obra desempregada, empregar mão-de-obra jovem e, paralelamente, gerar valor acrescido. Neste sentido, é importante conhecer a perceção dos gestores ao investimento direto estrangeiro. Esta obra apresenta a opinião de alguns dirigentes de empresas que investiram em Angola, segundo os quais esse país dispõe das mais importantes reservas de recursos naturais e energéticos, mas a corrupção, o excesso de burocracia, a deficiente qualificação da mão-de-obra, a rede de infraestruturas de transporte e os elevados custos com a energia e água continuam a ser as principais barreiras ao investimento direto estrangeiro.
