Kattava elämäkertateos viidennestä Mannerheim-ristin ritarista Jääkärikenraali Antero Svensson on itsenäisen Suomen menestyneimpiä rintamakomentajia. Hänen monipuolinen sotilaallinen koulutuksensa, sosiaaliset taitonsa ja johtajanominaisuutensa tekivät hänestä poikkeuksellisen kyvykkään komentajan. Antero Svenssonin sotilasura alkoi jääkärikoulutuksella Saksassa vuonna 1915. Hän osallistui myös ensimmäisen maailmansodan taisteluihin Saksan joukoissa. Vapaussodan jälkeen nuoren luutnantin tie vei Sotakorkeakouluun, josta valmistuttuaan hänet määrättiin yleisesikuntaan tiedusteluosastolle. Kielitaitoinen Svensson toimi sotilasasiamiehenä Puolassa, Romaniassa ja Tsekkoslovakiassa. Talvisodan alkaessa eversti Svensson komensi Karjalan kaartin rykmenttiä ja teki ensimmäisenä ilmoituksen Päämajaan sodan syttymisestä: ”Neuvostoliiton joukot ovat ylittäneet tänään kello 7.00 valtakunnanrajan.” Antero Svensson nimi nousee esiin myös Goran taisteluista kieltäytyneiden miesten teloituksessa. Pikaoikeus tuomitsi kaksi Svenssonin divisioonaan kuuluvaa miestä kuolemaan 20.12.1941. Tapaus on toiminut myös Tuntemattoman sotilaan vastaavan tarinan esikuvana. Svensson menestyi jatkosodan hyökkäysvaiheessa, mutta erityisesti Syvärinniskan ja Viipurinlahden sitkeänä puolustajana. Parkanolainen Jukka Kyösti (s.1967) on aiemmin kirjoittanut kirjan Tykistökomentaja eversti Bror Kraemer sekä yhdessä Synnöve Fromin kanssa teoksen Suomalaisena SS-miehenä itärintamalla.
