Ultra Intensity Patriarchy written by Menara Guizardi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-19 with Social Science categories.

This book analyzes the experiences of women living and working across the busiest and most transited frontier in South America, the Paraná Tri-Border Area (TBA), between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. From a feminist approach, it shows how, in these territories, the gender violence is intensified, configuring an expression of ultra-intensity patriarchy. Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted for two years along with Paraguayan women living and working between Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), and Foz de Iguazú (Brazil), the authors analyze, on the one hand, the intricate connection between gender violence and ethnicity on these borders; and, on the other hand, the persistence of a female care that appears to offer a fundamental tool of resistance, of vital female drive. The work is divided into three parts. The first is intended to read like a trip to this complex and fascinating corner of South America through a visual and ethnohistoric journey of the region, as well as a theoretical debate that defines gender violence and its particular condensation on border territories. The second part explores the women’s stories in-depth and follow the narrative thread of their biographies, rebuilding their experiences from their families of origin to their productive insertion on the TBA. Finally, the third part takes an in-depth look at the complex links between the social reproduction obligations that fall on women, and the gender violence on the TBA, stressing how they develop strategies to change their life conditions by establishing transborder circuits of care. Ultra-Intensity Patriarchy: Care and Gender Violence on the Paraná Tri-Border Area will be a valuable tool for researchers from different disciplines, such as anthropology, sociology, population studies and gender studies, interested in the growing field of studies of feminism, borders, and migration from an intersectional perspective.

Climate Justice In The Majority World written by Neil J.W. Crawford and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-31 with Social Science categories.

This edited collection explores a diverse range of climate (in)justice case studies from the Majority World – where most of humans and non-humans live. It is also the site of the most severe impacts of climate change and home to some of the key solutions for the climate crisis. The collection brings together 12 chapters featuring the work of over 30 authors from around the globe. The impacts of climate change are disproportionately affecting individuals, communities, and countries in the Majority World who historically have contributed little to rising global temperatures. The 12 chapters focus on a range of cross-cutting themes, demonstrating both individual and collective experiences of climate change and struggles for achieving climate justice from the Majority World. This includes activism, resistance, and social movement organizing in India and Brazil; lived experiences and understandings of frontline communities in Bangladesh and South Africa; consequences of and responses to disasters in Mozambique and Puerto Rico; and contested accounts, narratives, and futures in the Maldives and Pakistan, among other topics. By adopting a decolonial lens, this book provides rich empirical content, insightful comparisons, and novel conceptual interventions. It foregrounds climate justice from an intersectional perspective and contributes to the ongoing efforts by scholars and activists to address epistemic injustice in climate change research, policy, and practice. It will appeal to undergraduate and graduate-level students, academics, activists, policymakers, and members of the public concerned with the impacts and inequalities of climate change in the Majority World.

Asian Worlds In Latin America written by Stefania Paladini and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-22 with Social Science categories.

There has been increasing Asian interest in Latin America in recent years, beginning with Japanese investment in the 1980s, and continuing into the present decade when there is growing investment by China. This book examines the nature and extent of Asian business and related activity in Latin America. It shows how investment is not just from Japan and China, with Korea and India also involved, and with Taiwan directly competing with China. It explores activity in the minerals and energy sector, and also in trade and other areas. It demonstrates how Asian activity has a wide impact on the countries of both South America and the Caribbean, making them less exclusively "the United States’ backyard"; how different countries are affected differently by Asian activity; and how the growing links with Asia increasingly open up the possibility of greater Latin American activity in Asia.
