Nachdem Axel Klingenberg Mitte der 80er Jahre in der Film-AG des Herzog Ernst-Gymnasiums in Uelzen »The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle« gesehen hat, kaufte er sich eine Lederjacke und einen Haufen Sex Pistols- und Exploited-Platten. Kenntnisreich, leidenschaftlich und (selbst-)ironisch lässt er 25 Jahre später die Geschichte des Punks Revue passieren - und zeigt gleichzeitig, dass dieser kollektiv erzeugte Lärm immer mehr war als bloß ein Musikstil. »Die »Pogues« machten das Unmögliche möglich. Sie verbanden Punkrock mit Volksmusik bzw. mit irischem Folk. Allerdings machten sie damit nicht den Punk sauberer, sondern den Folk schmutziger. Die erste Single veröffentlichten sie daher konsequenterweise auch noch unter dem Namen »Pogue Mahone«, was soviel wie »Küss meinen Arsch« heißt. Man könnte also auch sagen: Sie führten den Folk auf sich selbst zurück. Und vergriffen sich dabei auch an diversen Klassikern der traditionellen irischen und englischen Musik, wie z.B. an »Dirty Old Town« von Ewan MacColl - ein Lied über die englische Kleinstadt Salford, Lancashire, die man besser mit einer Axt kleinkloppen sollte. Das nenne ich wahre Heimatliebe!«

As DIY digital maker culture proliferates globally, research on these practices is also maturing. Still, particular terminologies dominate beyond their Western contexts, and technocultural histories of making are often rendered as over-simplified technomyths that render invisible diverse local practices. This special issue brings together contributions that highlight how historicising plays a role in mythmaking and the creation of social imaginaries. The peer-reviewed articles present cultural-historical perspectives, technology and design histories and historiographies, and alternative histories related to postcolonial resistance. The contributions illustrate the relevance of craft to making as a reparative practice after the Salvadoran Civil War and as a leisure activity to spark »innovation« in mid-century corporate culture; the political-economic background to the diffusion and differentiation of community workshops in contemporary Spain and post-war Germany; and the various aesthetics and politics of technology culture manifestos over the years. The issue features an interview with Peter Harper of the Alternative Technology movement by Simon Sadler, as well as an interview with Felix Holm and Suné Stassen on the antecedents of making and design in South Africa. The special issue is rounded off with six short alternative (hi)stories of DIY making including multiple practices, geographies and temporalities.

Modern science informs us about the end of the universe: "game over" is the message which lies ahead of our world. Christian theology, on the other hand, sees in the end not the cessation of all life, but rather an invitation to play again, in God's presence. Is there a way to articulate together such vastly different claims? Eschatology is a theological topic which merits being considered from several different angles. This book seeks to do this by gathering contributions from esteemed and fresh voices from the fields of biblical exegesis, history, systematic theology, philosophy, and ethics. How can we make sense, today, of Jesus' (and the New Testament's) eschatological message? How did he, his early disciples, and the Christian tradition, envision the "end" of the world?
