In recent years, artificial intelligence has increasingly been playing an essential role in diverse areas in medicine, assisting clinicians in patient management. In nephrology and transplantation, artificial intelligence can be utilized to enhance clinical care, such as through hemodialysis prescriptions and the follow-up of kidney transplant patients. Furthermore, there are rapidly expanding applications and validations of comprehensive, computerized medical records and related databases, including national registries, health insurance, and drug prescriptions. For this Special Issue, we made a call to action to stimulate researchers and clinicians to submit their invaluable works and present, here, a collection of articles covering original clinical research (single- or multi-center), database studies from registries, meta-analyses, and artificial intelligence research in nephrology including acute kidney injury, electrolytes and acid–base, chronic kidney disease, glomerular disease, dialysis, and transplantation that will provide additional knowledge and skills in the field of nephrology and transplantation toward improving patient outcomes.

Sie sind daneben eine hervorragende Quelle für Studienbetrieb und Studentenleben des 18. Jahrhunderts.

In den Jahren 1738/39 beschäftigten Gottsched vor allem zwei Ereignisse: sein Austritt aus der von ihm geführten Deutschen Gesellschaft und die damit verbundenen Auswirkungen sowie die Fortsetzung seiner Streitigkeiten über die Philosophie Christian Wolffs, die er seit spätestens 1737 mit den lutherischen orthodoxen Theologen führte. Durch die Unterstützung des einflussreichen Reichsgrafen Ernst von Manteuffel gewann Gottsched nun einen starken politischen Rückhalt. Dies dokumentieren 52 der insgesamt 204 in diesem Band veröffentlichten Briefe einer Korrespondenz, in die auch bald Frau Gottsched einbezogen wird. Auch in den Schreiben anderer Briefpartner geht es um die rationalistische Philosophie Wolffs, aber auch um Publikationen höchst unterschiedlicher Thematik, z.B. das Theater, den deutschen Sprachunterricht an den Schulen, um Probleme Leipziger Studenten, Zeitschriftenpolemiken, Übersetzungsvorhaben oder um die in Leipzig und Zürich in Konkurrenz betriebene Edition der Schriften des „Vaters der deutschen Dichtkunst“, also Martin Opitz’.

Wiederkehrende Themen in der Korrespondenz sind neben der Einführung des deutschen Sprachunterrichts an Gymnasien Fragen zur Dichtungstheorie, zur Übersetzung fremdsprachiger Bücher und zur Drucklegung von Werken Gottscheds und seiner Briefpartner. Zu einem großen, seine berufliche Existenz gefährdenden Problem wird für Gottsched zunehmend die Auseinandersetzung mit Vertretern der lutherischen Orthodoxie, von der die Briefe detailliert Zeugnis ablegen.

Johann Christoph Gottsched (1700-1766) is considered to be one of the greatest scholars of the Early German Enlightenment. As a professor for poetics in Leipzig, he worked towards a reformation of the German language and a renaissance in German drama. His extensive correspondence and social contacts made him a ‚European event‘ and his papers are being presented here in a standard edition: 25 volumes, approx. 6,000 letters to and from Gottsched, predominantly in German, are being published with a critical apparatus and an academic commentary. This edition is being published in co-operation with the Saxonian Academy of Sciences and edited by members of the academy. The edition is scheduled to be published over 25 years and offers an ideal addition to the multi-volume edition of Gottsched's works, already published by de Gruyter.

Von den 218 Briefen gehören 126 zur Korrespondenz mit dem Reichsgrafen Ernst Christoph von Manteuffel, dem engagierten Mäzen der Wolffianer und Haupt der Berliner Alethophilengesellschaft. In Berlin wie in Leipzig setzte man die größten Erwartungen in den preußischen Thronfolger Friedrich II. Man sah in ihm den Roi-philosophe, der der Vernunft in Gestalt der Wolffschen Philosophie zum Sieg verhelfen wird. Die Briefe dokumentieren die Entstehung von Gottscheds vernunftgemäßer Predigtlehre und den Umgang mit den Satiren auf die Wolffgegner, die L. A. V. Gottsched verfaßt hatte. Gottscheds Reden auf Martin Opitz und auf das Buchdruckjubiläum fanden im Briefwechsel eine starke Resonanz und inspirierten Korrespondenten zu ähnlichen Unternehmungen. Die Briefe Jakob Bruckers gewähren Einblick in Planung und Entstehung des Bilder=sals, des großen Porträt-Biographiewerkes zur zeitgenössischen Gelehrtengeschichte, in das bald auch das Ehepaar Gottsched Eingang fand.

This book examines the interface between Polish popular music and screen media against the background of Polish history, cinema, and popular culture and situates that interface in a local as well as global context. It looks at Polish musicals, biographical films about musicians, documentary films and, finally, music videos. The author draws attention to the immense popularity of musical comedies in Polish interwar cinema, the enduring appeal of musical genres during the period of state socialism, despite their low status in film criticism, and the re-birth of musicals in the 2010s. Mazierska also discusses the most important stars, directors and authors of songs presented in Polish films, and points to the effect of technological changes on inception and transformation of music-centred genres of screen media, including the effect of YouTube on their growth and preservation. The book is informed by the question of how parochial and universal is Polish popular music and its screen representation.
