Based on two decades of the author’s reflective pedagogical practice research, this book develops a philosophy of dialogical relationships. It analyses approaches to philosophical practice and suggests facilitation moves and philosophical exercises that can be adapted across educational levels, school subjects and higher education disciplines. Chapters provide examples of transformative philosophical group dialogues and suggest pathways towards multi perspective thinking, mutual understanding and wisdom in culturally diverse contexts. Philosophising the Dialogos Way towards Wisdom in Education can be used as a holistic approach to democracy education, peace education, education for sustainable living and wellbeing. The book will be of great interest to academics, researchers and students in the fields of teacher education, philosophy of education and higher education. It will also appeal to practising professionals such as teachers and teacher educators in secondary and higher education.

Metamorphosis In Fish written by Sylvie Dufour and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-08 with Science categories.

This book gathers current data on the two types of fish metamorphoses and their endocrine controls. It will be of interest for fish biologists as well as comparative physiologists and endocrinologists. Metamorphosis is a major developmental phase characterized by morphological and physiological changes. It prepares organisms for a drastic shift in habitat and behavior. Among vertebrates, besides the well-known larval metamorphosis in amphibians, two types of metamorphosis are also described in the life cycle of some fish species. Larval metamorphosis, also called first metamorphosis or true metamorphosis, is encountered in lampreys, representative species of basal vertebrates as well as in some teleost groups, elopomorphs and pleuronectiforms, and possibly also in some other teleost species. Secondary metamorphosis occurs in juveniles of some diadromic migratory teleosts, such as salmons and eels, and compared to larval metamorphosis, involves less drastic morphological changes.

Practicing Philosophy written by Lydia Amir and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-25 with History categories.

This volume presents the state of the art of philosophical practice worldwide from the perspectives of leading philosophical practitioners, both counselors and institutional consultants. Philosophical practice has developed in different directions in different parts of the world, with the focus in Europe and North America being mostly on client counseling and corporate consultancy, while in Asia it is more community-based and more closely aligned with psychotherapy. In all cases, philosophical practitioners strive to transcend the boundaries of academic philosophy and reach out to the public, to corporations, to the policy makers, to the medical, legal and many other professions. The chapters of this book illustrate both the breadth of philosophical practice and its various methodological directions, while, at the same time, showing how philosophy can be relevant to everyday life, not just for individuals, but for the economy, the government, international organizations, the helping and therapeutic professions, and the educational system. The volume is primarily a companion for students of applied philosophy on all levels, as well as for modern psychotherapists, educational professionals and academics. It is designed to support a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in philosophy and applied psychology, ranging from ancient ethics to philosophical practice sui generis, or to the philosophy of psychology.

The construction industry as a workplace is commonly seen as problematic for a number of reasons, including its worrying health and safety record, the instability of its workforce, and the poorly regulated nature of the sector. Ethnographic Research in the Construction Industry draws together in one volume a set of expert contributions which demonstrate how social science perspectives, rooted in ethnographic research on construction sites and with construction workers themselves, can generate fresh insights into the social, cultural and material ways that the industry and conditions of work in it are experienced and played out.

Reflecting on the practice of qualitative literacy research, this book presents 14 essays that address the most pressing questions faced by qualitative researchers today: how to represent others and themselves in research narratives; how to address ethical dilemmas in research-participant relations; and how to deal with various rhetorical, institutional, and historical constraints on research. After a foreword ("Considering Research Methods in Composition and Rhetoric" by Andrea A. Lunsford and others) and an introduction ("Reflections on Methodology in Literacy Studies" by the editors), essays in the book are (1) "Seduction and Betrayal in Qualitative Research" (Thomas Newkirk); (2) "Still-Life: Representations and Silences in the Participant-Observer Role" (Brenda Jo Brueggemann); (3) "Dealing with the Data: Ethical Issues in Case Study Research" (Cheri L. Williams); (4) "'Everything's Negotiable': Collaboration and Conflict in Composition Research" (Russel K. Durst and Sherry Cook Stanforth); (5) "Dilemmas of Fidelity: Qualitative Research in the Classroom" (Helen Dale); (6) "Ethnography and the Problem of the 'Other'" (Patricia A. Sullivan); (7) "Turning in upon Ourselves: Positionality, Subjectivity, and Reflexivity in Case Study and Ethnographic Research" (Elizabeth Chiseri-Strater); (8) "Constructing Voices in Writing Research: Developing Participatory Approaches to Situated Inquiry" (Ann M. Blakeslee and others); (9) "A Text for Many Voices: Representing Diversity in Reports of Naturalistic Research" (Lucille Parkinson McCarthy and Stephen M. Fishman); (10) "Culture on the Page: Experience, Rhetoric, and Aesthetics in Ethnographic Writing" (Bonnie S. Sunstein); (11) "Engendering Ethnography: Insights from the Feminist Critique of Postmodern Anthropology" (Roxanne D. Mountford); (12) "Writing, Rap, and Representation: Problematic Links between Texts and Experience" (Jabari Mahiri); (13) "Social and Institutional Power Relationships in Studies of Workplace Writing" (Jennie Dautermann); and (14) "Ethics, Institutional Review Boards, and the Involvement of Human Participants in Composition Research" (Paul V.
