The Milan Institute Of Physics written by Leonardo Gariboldi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-09 with Science categories.

This book offers the first comprehensive and authoritative text on the history of physics in Italy’s industrial and financial capital, from the foundation of the University of Milan’s Institute of Physics in 1924 up to the early 1960s, when it moved to its current location. It includes biographies and a historical-scientific analysis of the main research topics investigated by world-renowned physicists such as Aldo Pontremoli, Giovanni Polvani, Giovanni Gentile Jr., Beppo Occhialini, and Piero Caldirola, highlighting their contributions to the development of Italian physics in a national and international context. Further, the book provides a historical perspective on the interplay of physics and politics in Italy during both the Fascist regime and the postwar reconstruction period, which led to the creation of the CISE (Centro Informazioni Studi Esperienze, a research center for applied nuclear physics, funded by private industries) in 1946, and of the Milan division of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in 1951.

Enrico Fermi written by Giuseppe Bruzzaniti and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-21 with Mathematics categories.

This biography explores the life and career of the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi, which is also the story of thirty years that transformed physics and forever changed our understanding of matter and the universe: nuclear physics and elementary particle physics were born, nuclear fission was discovered, the Manhattan Project was developed, the atomic bombs were dropped, and the era of “big science” began. It would be impossible to capture the full essence of this revolutionary period without first understanding Fermi, without whom it would not have been possible. Enrico Fermi: The Obedient Genius attempts to shed light on all aspects of Fermi’s life - his work, motivation, influences, achievements, and personal thoughts - beginning with the publication of his first paper in 1921 through his death in 1954. During this time, Fermi demonstrated that he was indeed following in the footsteps of Galileo, excelling in his work both theoretically and experimentally by deepening our understanding of the Pauli exclusion principle, winning the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the fundamental properties of slow neutrons, developing the theory of beta decay, building the first nuclear reactor, and playing a central role in the development of the atomic bomb. Interwoven with this fascinating story, the book details the major developments in physics and provides the necessary background material to fully appreciate the dramatic changes that were taking place. Also included are appendices that provide a timeline of Fermi’s life, several primary source documents from the period, and an extensive bibliography. This book will enlighten anyone interested in Fermi’s work or the scientific events that led to the physics revolution of the first half of the twentieth century.

Noun Noun Compounds In Italian written by Radimský Jan and has been published by University of South Bohemia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-28 with Italian language categories.

This book investigates one concrete compounding pattern in present-day Italian within a larger overview of Italian compounding. Various accounts and classifications of Noun + Noun combinations in Italian are reviewed, with special focus on the status of the lexical integrity hypothesis. The author sets out to propose an integrated approach to the Noun + Noun compounding pattern, rigorously based on large representative data sets that were extracted from the Italian web corpus ItWaC as both automatically and manually post-processed frequency lists. On the basis of such data, it is aimed to show the behaviour of various subtypes of Noun + Noun compounds. Starting out with the Bisetto-Scalise classification, the author carefully examines the status of coordinate compounds, ATAP compounds (i.e., the group comprising attributive and appositive structures) and subordinate compounds (comprising verbal-nexus and grounding compounds), discussing both theoretical and empirical implications of this classification scheme. Moreover, the original Bisetto-Scalise model is supplemented with further classification levels in order to capture specific compounding types such as relational (i.e. inherently trinominal) compounds. A major merit of the present study lies in the quantitative dimension of the data it deals with. In light of this data, the author emphasizes the gradient nature of the traditional dichotomy between syntax and compounding. The book will thus appeal not only to the linguists interested specifically in Italian word-formation, but also to a larger community of scholars who seek a more general view of the word-formation phenomena.

The slowdown of growth in Western industrialized nations in the last twenty years, along with the rise of Japan as a major economic and technological power (and enhanced technical sophistication of Taiwan, Korea, and other NICs) has led to what the authors believe to be a "techno-nationalism." This combines a strong belief that technological capabilities of a nation;s firms are a key source of their competitive process, with a belief that these capabilities are in a sense national, and can be built by national action. This book is about these national systems of technical innovation. The heart of the work contains studies of seventeen countries--from large market-oriented industrialized ones to several smaller high income ones, including a number of newly industrialized states as well. Clearly written, this work highlights institutions and mechanisms which support technical innovation, showing similarities, differences, and their sources across nations, making this work accessible to students as well as the scholars of innovation.

The concept of university language centres has changed in recent decades. Initially conceived as laboratories for practical and autonomous language-learning, they are now considered as places with more specific and complex functions in language teaching and learning. University language centres now constitute networks for exchanging knowledge and know-how in order to respond to ever-changing, multilingual and multicultural contexts. At the same time, the availability and acquisition of new technologies is contributing to the creation of new tools for the provision of appropriate services and training. This collection covers a wide range of topics related to the activities, experiences and applied research carried out in Italian university language centres. It provides further evidence of the important role university language centres play in promoting language expertise, developing tools and adopting digital resources, and providing support and training for language teaching. Technology, creativity, methodologies and plurilingualism are key topics in the book as they constitute the essential ingredients for effective and successful language teaching and learning. The volume’s thirty-three chapters provide multi-perspective approaches, showing how the real contexts of current language education need the integration of theoretical backgrounds with the best practices resulting from practical experience.
