The Unauthorized Version written by Robin Lane Fox and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-07-06 with Religion categories.

The Bible is moving, inspirational and endlessly fascinating - but is it true? Starting with Genesis and the implicit background to the birth of Christ, Robin Lane Fox sets out to discover how far biblical descriptions of people, places and events are confirmed or contradicted by external written and archaeological evidence. He turns a sharp historian's eye on when and where the individual books were composed, whether the texts as originally written exist, how the canon was assembled, and why the Gospels give varying accounts even of the trial and condemnation of Jesus.

Xicot Ncatl written by Guillermo Castillo-Feliú and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-29 with Fiction categories.

As Spain's New World colonies fought for their independence in the early nineteenth century, an anonymous author looked back on the earlier struggle of native Americans against the Spanish conquistadores and penned this novel, Xicoténcatl. Writing from a decidedly anti-Spanish perspective, the author describes the historical events that led to the march on Tenochtitlán and eventual conquest of the Aztec empire in 1519 by Hernán Cortés and his Indian allies, the Tlaxcalans. Xicoténcatl stands out as a beautiful exposition of an idealized New World about to undergo the tremendous changes wrought by the Spanish Conquest. It was published in Philadelphia in 1826. In his introduction to this first English translation, Guillermo I. Castillo-Feliú discusses why the novel was published outside Latin America, its probable author, and his attitudes toward his Spanish and Indian characters, his debt to Spanish literature and culture, and the parallels that he draws between past and present struggles against Spanish domination in the Americas.

Any assessment of Philip II's rule assumes the appearance of a paradox. War is humanity’s only hope. “Aldiss’ dark vision of collapsing society and withering earth is poignant and brutal . . . [a] richly detailed world” (Science Fiction Ruminations). In a future where the Earth has been savaged by overpopulation and over‐farming, robots are considered more valuable than humans and sand must be altered to create artificially fertile soil. Ex‐convict Knowle Noland, the hallucinating sea captain of the Trieste Star, finds himself wrapped up in a plot to incite a global war that will wipe out millions. War, it seems, is the only way to drastically reduce the population and create a better world for those who survive.

La Vida Y Muerte De Herodes written by Tirso de Molina and has been published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Art categories.

This book makes available to students and scholars of Spanish Golden Age Drama a carefully prepared semi-critical edition and verse translation of Tirso de Molina's Herod play, a little known masterpiece fusing the two Herods - the historical protagonist of Jewish and Roman history whose life is narrated by Flavius Josephus in Antiquities of the Jews and the tyrant-ogre depicted in Biblical and liturgical sources - into a tragic protagonist of archetypal dimensions, a vegetation daimon or year-spirit whose life history prepares the way for the more sublime year-spirit whose nativity and epiphany coincide with Herod's ritual implosion at the end of the play. Professor Fornoff's introduction and notes show us how to read through the plot to the sacramental action which it signifies.
