PREFACE At this time of unrest, created largely by the upheaval of war, when homes have been broken up and minds become un- balanced through physical and mental uneasiness, Peace, returning to the world like the dove to the Ark, finds a place of repose--above the breakers-in our homes and our country. It becomes the interest of the civilized world to reconstruct with what is best at hand, but with care not to discard the fundamental principles of Christianity - otherwise the structure would be of a most flimsy character, Divorce, which has invaded many countries, under the aegis of civil legislation, ia a most pernicious evil-anti-national and anti-Christian. The author of this little volume has gathered some facts and statistics from the records of divorce in France and in the United States and come to the conclusion of attempting to nullify its effects wheresoever it has asserts itself and, above all, of defending our own country and firesides against its ravages. With the intention of awakenins an interest in men of thought and influence who could join in cornbatting this crying evil, he sounds this clarion call in defence of country, faith, nationality, our homes and society in general. Amongst the countless benefactions of God to humanity one of the most important is the nuptial bond it is the gift of heaven, the charm of earth, the joy of the present, the prom- ise of the future, the innocence of enjoyment, the sanctity of passion, the sacrament of love. The sIender curtain that shades its shrine has for its purity the whiteness of the mountain snow and for its protection the texture of the moun- tain adamant. That national sanctuary is being invaded by the polluted spirit of prayerless, heartless, remorseless divorce, and today religion defied, morals violated and the canons of God foully spurned invoke the protection of Christian men and women. Admirable. as this little work is, so exact in facts, so irrefutable in its principles and so impeccable in its logic, still its influence is circumscribed by the fact of its publication in French, While the good it may effect is unquestionable, still I it can only reach a limited number of readers and they are of those less in need today of its warnings. That the vast English-speaking public, both in Canada. and the United States, may be enabled to benefit by it and to realize the magnitude of the menace it indicates, it has been decided to translate it into the English language. If this version of Fathcr Forcsts timely and exceedingly. Important work can only raise an additional barrier against the flood of misery and wrong that now threatens the whole social worId, the work will not be in vain and the translator will feel that his labour has been repaid many fold. May our homes, our rising generation, our country, our Christian civilization be protected against this phantom of Evil, this curse of the present and moral danger of the future is the desire that wells up from the inmost fountains of every truly patriotic heart.

Jenzy: I love my husband, but he doesn't see me anymore. We were college sweethearts and for seven years I've been his wife. Five of those years were bliss; the last two have been a long fall from grace. He's the love of my life, the sexy and smart man I saw my future with, but now I don't think he sees it too. I'm tired of not being seen, I'm tired of not being heard, and I'm tired of being in love alone. I was his optimistic hippie girl that he couldn't get enough of. Now I'm just his annoyance. So I told him, I finally found the backbone and this is our story.... Chris: My wife just told me she wants a divorce. What the hell do I say to that? I thought we were fine-, well fine is a bad word, I thought we were okay. Doesn't matter what I think because she's moving out and I can't really let this happen. Yeah, she annoys me, we're total opposites, but I knew that when I met her, she hasn't changed...maybe I have? I was her anchor, her safety, her home. Now I'm that guy that's wrecked her and there are plenty of men willing to repair the damage I did. So I have a plan. Find out what happened to change my affection for her within the last two years, and win her back before someone else does, because I still love her, and she still loves me....I guess....

Divorce is at once a widespread reality and a painful decision, so it is no surprise that this landmark study of its long-term effects should both spark debate and find a large audience. In this compelling, thought-provoking book, Judith Wallerstein explains that, while children do learn to cope with divorce, it in fact takes its greatest toll in adulthood, when the sons and daughters of divorced parents embark on romantic relationships of their own. Wallerstein sensitively illustrates how children of divorce often feel that their relationships are doomed, seek to avoid conflict, and fear commitment. Failure in their loving relationships often seems to them preordained, even when things are going smoothly. As Wallerstein checks in on the adults she first encountered as youngsters more than twenty-five years ago, she finds that their experiences mesh with those of the millions of other children of divorce, who will find themselves on every page. With more than 100,000 copies in print, The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce spent three weeks on the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Denver Post bestseller lists. The book was also featured on two episodes of Oprah as well as on the front cover of Time and the New York Times Book Review.
