L'accordo quadro firmato nel 1998 tra il Presidente della Conferenza dei Rettori delle Università Italiane(CRUI) e il Presidente della Conférence des Présidents des Universités Françaises(CPU) ha istituito una procedura di cotutela di tesi dottorali tra Francia e Italia. Nell'ambito di tale accordo si sono mosse le esperienze che Simona Calvagna e Vito Martelliano, ormai dottori in Progetto e recupero architettonico, urbano e ambientale, hanno svolto nel corso degli studi portati a termine nel mese di aprile del 2004: i percorsi di ricerca, fondati sulla interdisciplinarità, hanno prodotto una sinergia fra istituzioni culturali, appartenenti ai due paesi, che trova in questa sede una ulteriore affermazione. I relatori, che afferiscono alle strutture referenti impegnate nell'accordo, dimostrano come la cooperazione europea per la ricerca universitaria non è più un'utopia bensì una realtà, irrinunciabile anche se difficoltosa: è un piacere per me avere la possibilità e l'onore di aprire i lavori di un seminario che guarda alle esperienze di ricerca maturate in tale ambito. L'Università può così allargare il suo raggio d'azione e lo scambio di conoscenze e di esperienze, come quelle oggi in gioco, può essere il presupposto di una più ampia condivisione di intenti in cui la circolazione di idee e di uomini concorrono a fare dell'area europea un ambito di ricerca comune. Saperi umanistici e scientifici, base di identità di ciascun popolo, potranno confluire a determinare una comune consapevolezza. Il volume è a cura di Anna Maria Atripaldi, con contributi di Simona Calvagna, Vito Martelliano e interviste a Gilles Clément e Fausto C. Nigrelli.

Italian gardens vary widely according to their historical date and geographic location. This collection approaches Italian gardens of all periods, from the middle ages to modern times, and it ranges widely throughout the peninsula, from Genoa to Sicily, the Veneto to Liguria, and Ferrara to Florence.
