Les éditions des Discours politiques, surtout des Discours en vers, foisonnent. Quand M. Barbier a commencé à s'intéresser aux problèmes bibliographiques qu'elles posaient (il voulait décrire les exemplaires de sa collection), il s'est aperçu que l'on soupçonnait l'existence de deux ou trois éditions, au plus, pour chaque plaquette. Beaucoup d'auteurs parlaient d'une "édition avec le titre renouvelé" quand il y avait des publications chez le même éditeur pendant plusieurs années de suite. En réalité, le seul Gabriel Buon, libraire attitré de Ronsard, a fait procéder à la réimpression successive de tous les Discours, au fur et à mesure de la vente. Si l'on admet que l'on tirait environ 300 exemplaires de chaque édition, c'est peut-être 2500 exemplaires du Discours des Misères qui ont été ainsi vendus en huit éditions ou états successifs, entre 1562 et 1563. Voilà qui justifie pleinement ces recherches bibliographiques.

The author of this book, Gerard Lukken, has always believed that liturgy is not something which is unchangeable or sacrosanct, something to be imposed 'from above'; rather he believes that it must gain shape and content from the situation in which believers find themselves. This involvement is reflected in the hundreds of publications which have flowed from his pen. Lukken's extensive writings offer not only an exciting reflection on the challenges (such as secularization and the decrease in church-going) confronting church and believers, but also on the problems they have faced in celebrating their faith in recent decades. Moreover, his work represents a model for methodological renewal. The key concepts in his theological approach and his evaluation are 'anthropology' and 'semiotics'. These two aspects have left their marks on the organisation of this book which is a selective compilation drawn from his earlier publications. This collection consists of nineteen studies which have lost nothing of their topicality and most of which are now being translated into English, French or German for the first time. By crossing the frontier of language in such a way the editors wish not only to honour a leading specialist in liturgy but also to contribute to academic research into liturgy throughout the world. Gerard Lukken (1933) studied at the Diocesan Seminary in Haaren (Noord-Brabant), the Pontificia Universita in Rome, and the Institut Superieur de Liturgie in Paris. He was professor of liturgy and sacramental theology (from 1967) and director of the Liturgical Institute (from 1992) at the Theological Faculty of Tilburg until his retirement in 1994.

Les Regrets, même à la lecture des études les plus récentes, restent une œuvre énigmatique. Comment l’expression élégiaque, l’écriture mêlée à la satire et la rhétorique de l’éloge, autant de techniques renouvelées par Joachim Du Bellay, peuvent-elles se concilier? Comment cette poésie, nourrie d’intertextualité, peut-elle se proclamer "prose en ryme" ou " ryme en prose", "papiers journaulx" ou bien "commentaires" ? Comment apprécier le statut du Je par delà la fable et les sources d’inspiration dominantes ? L’auteur, suppléant le défaut d’études linguistiques consacrées à l’œuvre du poète, a donc voulu étudier les formes de la subjectivité lyrique et de la textualité littéraire afin de mettre en évidence les traits constitutifs du discours poétique dans Les Regrets. Elle s’attache, d’une part, à caractériser la langue naturelle de Du Bellay dans ses lettres, dont elle a aussi analysé l’orthographe manuscrite, et, d’autre part, à en étudier l’application stylistique dans le recueil. Grâce à une analyse statistique des faits syntaxiques et métriques, elle dégage ainsi les dominantes de l’écriture épistolaire et met en lumière la clôture harmonieuse des Regrets dans un mouvement ascendant allant de l’obscurité à la lumière.
