Population Studies And Development From Theory To Fieldwork written by Véronique Petit and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-30 with Social Science categories.

This book addresses major population and development issues: fertility and reproductive health, migrations, gender, education, poverty and inequalities. To that aim it revisits and considerably enlarges Kingsley Davis’ 1963 theory of change and response, using interdisciplinary methodologies. On the basis of four decades of field research (1985-2015), it questions the rationality of the actors, how culture shapes socio-demographic behaviours, in a context of modernity and globalisation. More specifically, it casts new light on the interactions of individuals, families, networks and local communities with the State and its population policy.

"For half a century African art has been increasingly admired, commanding the attention of artists and scholars throughout the world. But there has hitherto been no comprehensive listing of the very extensive literature which is indispensable for serious study. This volume provides the first general bibliography of works on all the main forms of African art. Based initially on the card index of the International African Institute, it has been extensively supplemented by documentation from other libraries and by individual specialists. The arrangement of the bibliography is geographical with subheadings to cover the main forms for every country. This is likely to be most convenient both for specialisets and for those intereested in the art of one particular area. The general reader will find in the first section a wide choice of introductory studies on different approaches to the subject"--Publisher's description, p. [2] of dust jacket.

"... the contributors to Status and Identity in West Africa have swept away the dust that has obscured the study of the societies of western Sudan and have made it possible to pursue the salutory work of decolonizing the history and sociology of these regions."Â -- American Ethnologist "This discussion is among the most significant contributions that African studies can make to the contemporary global dialogue on multicultural issues." -- Choice "It is 'must' reading for anyone who works in African literature today." -- Research in African Literatures "…an indispensable guide to understanding the producers of art in the Mande world, including the art of the spoken word. The writing and arguments are clear and jargon-free…it will provide a rich harvest of detailed original research…" -- African Arts "[This] book... is the most impressive effort to look at these groups in comparative perspective. The essays fit together nicely to challenge notions that came out of colonial scholarship." -- Journal of Interdisciplinary History "... the volume makes a significant contribution to the social history and ongoing processes of cultural pluralism in West Africa." -- Journal of Religion in Africa The nyamakalaw -- blacksmiths, potters, leather-workers, bards, and other artists and specialists among the Mande-speaking peoples of West Africa -- play powerful roles in Mande society. This book presents the first full portrait of one of Africa's most powerful and least understood social groups.
