De este libro quedan fragmentos en hebreo y griego, se conserva integro en geez, lengua litúrgica de la Iglesia Etíope. En la actualidad es un libro altamente leído y consultado, cobrando gran relevancia después del hallazgo de estos textos en los rollos del Mar Muerto, en las Cuevas de Qumran. Ocupa un lugar significativo y relevante en la literatura judeocristiana. Antes de iniciar el estudio y lectura de este interesante texto, debemos tener en cuenta que en la misma Biblia este texto "El Libro de Enoc" es mencionado o citado en dos pasajes directamente en el Nuevo Testamento (y esto nos permite concluir que era un texto leído y de importancia especial para los cristianos del primer siglo). Enoch describio cuidadosamente la entrada del mal en el mundo, el nacimiento de la figura del Diablo, Satanas o el Maligno y anuncio proféticamente la futura segunda venida del Cristo con sus ángeles, para juzgar al mundo, y también anunció la creación de los nuevos cielos y de la nueva tierra. Cuando el apóstol Judas, hermano de Jacobo (Jud.1:1) hizo referencia al libro de Enoch el estaba citando una profecía dicha por Enoch cientos de años antes, en la cual se hace referencia a la futura segunda venida de Cristo y la guerra entre las fuerzas de la Luz y de las Tinieblas. En el presente texto analizamos en el Prologo la forma en que por primera vez el concepto del mal y del maligno entro en el pensamiento judio y como este se convirtio en Santanas. The Book of Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work, ascribed by tradition to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah.
