The Thing And Art written by Arvydas Šliogeris and has been published by Rodopi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Art categories.

On the grounds of the interpretation of Rainer Maria Rilke¿s poetry and Paul Cézanne¿s paintings the book attempts to approach the work of art as a thing. This lets to overcome a one-sided aesthetical interpretation of the origin of the work of art and to indicate its place in the cosmos of uncreated, i.e. not hominized things. So, the second fundamental issue raised is a try to point out a metaphysical difference between a hominized and not hominized (natural) thing. Such a non-aesthetical point of view is called ontotopy by the author and is opposed to traditional ontology and the philosophy of art.

At the heart of every well-developed political theory in the Western tradition is the concept of liberty or freedom. In this authoritative and comprehensive collection of essays, leading contemporary philosophers explore these conceptions from the time of the ancient Greeks to the present day. They examine and interpret the views of Hobbes, Spinoza, Locke, Rousseau, Kant, Fichte, Hegel, J.S. Mill, Marx, T.H. Green, Hayek, Oakeshott, Arendt, Rawls, Habermas, and Sir Isaiah Berlin. Animating the discussion throughout is Berlin's distinction between "negative" and "positive" liberty. This systematic historical appraisal is conducted by a number of eminent thinkers in the field of political philosophy. Altogether, these essays constitute an account of a key topic which students across a wide range of disciplines - including the political and social sciences, alongside philosophy itself - will find of importance.

Visual Identities written by Jean-Marie Floch and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-01-01 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The six essays of Visual Identities are an important contribution to the growing field of industrial semiotics. Floch's major strength is his analysis of signs in a way which is both industrially relevant and textually precise. Until recently there have been two quite different and distinct ways of understanding commerical signs, such as logos and advertisements. Industry-based work has tended to look at questions of marketing and has often been reduced to the mass psychology of 'appeal' and audience research, whereas the textual analysis of commerical signs has tended to come from limited positions of identity politics and criticism (Marxism, feminism, etc). Floch manages to find a way between (and also outside) these traditions. In doing so he has produced a book which will interest industrial practitioners in advertising, marketing and design as well as students and academics in semiotics.
