Voici donc la clef du commentaire qu'on a choisi d'éditer : l'évangile de Marc. Péricope après péricope, la pâte en est pétrie jusqu'à ce que s'en dégagent message ou enjeu. L'analyse du texte est accompagnée de notes minutieuses qui précisent les termes, les ambiguïtés grammaticales, les variantes. Ces notes, qui procèdent du grec mais sont, je crois, accessibles à tous, esquissent un vocabulaire biblique. La quête de l'évangile, pour soi et pour autrui, inspire ce commentaire, mais ne cède à aucune complaisance. On trouvera peu de références à la littérature théologique. Selon le vieil adage, la Bible est ici, à elle-même, sa meilleure interprète. Et cette œuvre, peu comparable, y trouve, elle, sa meilleure référence.

This study traces the debate surrounding Luke's use of the Gospel of Mark and special sources, such as Proto-Luke, in a section of the passion narrative (Lk 22,54-23,25). The survey covers roughly the period from the 1880's to 1997. Part I details the development from P. Feine to the 1960's. Part II begins with G. Schneider continuing up through 1997. In treating each scholar's position, the author reviews their underlying Synoptic theory, their source theory in the passion in general, then the trial of Pilate, and finally the trial before Herod. Part III is devoted to an interpretation of Lk 23,6 - 16. Part IV contains the list of abbreviations, the bibliography, and three appendices: (1) Special LQ vocabulary and constructions according to J. Weiss; (2) Lukan priority theories; and (3) the Gospel of Peter and its relation to the Herod pericope. Part IV concludes with the name index. The Lukan Passion Narrative will be particularly useful to those concerned with Luke's redactional technique, Source theories, Minor Agreements, and the history of exegesis.

That the poet John Gower was a major literary figure in England at the close of the fourteenth century is no longer in question. Scholarly attention paid to him and to his work over the past twenty- five years has redeemed him from an undeserved obscurity imposed by the preceding two hundred. The facts of his life and career are now documented, and recent critical assessment has placed his achievement most accurately alongside Chaucer's, Langland's, and the Gawain- poet's. Unique among his contemporaries, all of whom undoubtedly read and used French in some measure, Gower alone has left us a significant body of verse and prose in Anglo-Norman; chiefly, the twelve-stanza poem Mirour de l-Omme, the Cinkante Balades, and the Traitié pour les amantz marietz. We are offered in this concordance of his Anglo- Norman work a unique opportunity to view a poetic language as it was written and read in England until Gower's death in 1408 and beyond.
