Confiesa sus imaginaciones a su amigo el licenciado Peralta, el cual, sin dejar de mostrarnos su jocosidad ante tal asunto, accede a leer el coloquio con la condicion de que Campuzano deje de intentar convencerle de lo veridico del caso. El protagonista, que esta convencido de que su vida a sido una vida de perros, se identificara metaforicamente con el perro Berganza, que sera escuchado por el perro Cipion, su amigo Peralta. La metafora esta en la representacion del perro como animal fiel y leal, que es la actitud de Campuzano para con la vida, y que es recompensado con ingratitud y a veces con crueldad. Se llega a cuestionar si existe diferencia entre la irracionalidad animal y la racionalidad humana.
