How is information and communication technology (ICT) changing teaching and learning practices in secondary schools worldwide in the 21st century? This is the central question addressed by researchers involved in the series of surveys comprising the Second Information Technology in EducationStudy (SITES ). The question is a multifaceted one, with each facet raising additionalq uestions relating to both theory and practice. These include the following: • What traditional and new pedagogiesare evident in the 21st century? • What is the role of ICT in the teaching and learning process? • What ICT infrastructure is available in schools? • How can teachers and their administrators be prepared for effective practice? • How have these conditions and considerations changed since the first SITES survey in 1998? • What are the trends within and between national education systems? • What do the differences and similarities between these systems suggest? • How shouldchange be promoted in education in order to support teachers in their work? • Is there evidence that key strategic factors commonly found in ICT related educational policies do influence teachers’ pedagogical use of ICT? Because these questions are interconnected, the SITES 2006 researchers recognized that if we are to make sense of changes in pedagogical practicesas a result of IC T use, then we need to view those practices in terms of the interacting layers in the 22 education systems surveyed.

Contemporary society is highly media-saturated, and no sector more so than sport. Drawing on case studies from the Tour de France to fitness apps, this book introduces the concept of ‘mediatization’ and examines how media - historically and currently – are significant drivers for social and cultural change in sport. Utilizing different analytical approaches, case studies illustrate how so-called legacy media have historically been involved in the establishment of the institution of sport and have persistently been heavily involved in structural changes in the same domain. However, digital media currently add significantly to the development of a more complex picture of globalized interdependencies and still growing media presence in all aspects of the everyday lives of both sporting organizations, athletes and audiences/fans. James Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish novelist and poet, considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist avant-garde of the early 20th century. Joyce is best known for Ulysses, the short-story collection Dubliners, and the novels A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Finnegans Wake.

REDBREAST: THE ROBIN IN LIFE AND LITERATURE by Andrew Lack, is an updated, extended - transformed - version of the classic ROBIN REDBREAST, by eminent ornithologist David Lack, which came out in 1950 and has long been out of print. In addition to the early pastoral poetry, poems are included by Ted Hughes, W H Davies, Hal Summers, Laurence Whistler, John Betjeman, Andrew Young, Frances Hodgson Burnett, John Clare, Walter de la Mare - the list is endless. The robin has been present at Elizabethan murders, in eighteenth-century politics, and in the Victorian nursery. Here is an example of its territorial determination: 'Oddest of all is the robin, who (in 1939) nested behind the engine of an aeroplane in Denham. Six times the nest was destroyed by the human airman, and six times the feathered airwoman rebuilt it. Then the man gave in, and let her lay her six eggs in her seventh nest. The hatching of the eggs was odder still. Mrs Robin sat on her eggs till the plane went up, and while it soared in the sky the hot engine acted as foster mother. When it came down to earth, the patient robin took up her duties again. The young robins were hatched between flights, and each as it saw the light could boast that it had already out-soared the golden eagle' - (Eleanor Farjeon, from 'The New Book of Days') In his Foreword, Richard Mabey (who also wrote the Preface for our triple-award-winner, 'An Exaltation of Skylarks' by Stewart Beer) describes Andrew's book as 'a rich re-working' of his father's book. He notes, as we know, that 'the bird has always been there in a corner of our hearts'. Embellishing the text are black and white illustrations, and colour plates include paintings by J M W Turner and Beatrix Potter, with brilliant, funny cartoons deftly drawn by Euan Dunn, of the RSPB. Terence Lambert (as for 'An Exaltation of Skylarks') has painted a striking wrap-round jacket that, with a lovely robin frontispiece photograph by a 13-year old girl, leads us into an absorbing storyland.

This volume is devoted to the analysis of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and its role in international and national policy making. On its 50th anniversary, the OECD enjoys widely acknowledged international standing. Despite this, it has so far remained a rarely researched and analyzed organization. This book is thus a pioneering work: it fills a long-overdue gap in presenting a theoretically guided and empirically rich analysis of the OECD as apolitical actor. It explores its role in political processes through various case studies in a variety of policy fields. By conceptualizing the contributions to this volume around the concept of mechanisms of governance, it explores how and to what extent the OECD provides international incentives fornational policy making.
