La mostra Guercino – la luce del barocco, presenta l’artista nell’arco di vari decenni del suo lavoro – dalle prime opere create nella sua città nativa, Cento, nei primi decenni del Seicento, fino alle opere dipinte più tardi, nella sua fase matura a bologna. Già nel corso della sua vita Guercino divenne uno degli artisti europei più richiesti e venne invitato ad alcune delle corti più importanti dell’Europa di allora da sovrani come il re inglese Carlo I, la regina francese Maria de’ Medici, o da Cristina, regina di Svezia, uno dei personaggi più interessanti della scena politica e culturale dell’epoca, che gli fece visita nella sua bottega a bologna nel 1655. Per la storia dell’arte è ancora più importante la visita allo studio di Guercino di un grande maestro della pittura spagnola, Diego Velázquez, che avvenne nel 1629 e risultò in una serie di dipinti di Velázquez creati sotto l’influenza diretta del pittore italiano. Questo fatto probabilmente può aiutarci a capire la vera importanza e l’influsso che Guercino ebbe sullo sviluppo della pittura barocca del Seicento e Settecento, in cui proprio il suo vocabolario formale e iconografico barocco-classicista diventò uno dei paradigmi ai quali si appoggiavano molti artisti grandi e minori dell’epoca. Perciò non ci sorprende il fatto che possiamo riconoscere gli echi dell’espressione artistica tipica di Guercino in tanti, inaspettati luoghi e chiese d’Europa. Izložba Guercino – Svjetlo baroka predstavlja umjetnika u rasponu više desetljeca njegova stvaranja - od ranih radova nastalih u rodnom centu iz prvih desetljeca 17. stoljeca do kasnih djela nastalih u njegovoj zreloj bolonjskoj fazi. Vec za života Guercino je postao jedan od najtraženijih europskih umjetnika te je bio pozivan na neke od najznacajnijih dvorova tadašnje europe, od vladara kao što su primjerice engleski kralj Charles I, francuska kraljica Marija de Medici ili pak od švedske kraljice Kristine, jedne od najintrigantnijih osobnosti politicke i kulturne scene tog razdoblja koja ga je posjetila u njegovoj radionici u bologni 1655. za povijest umjetnosti zasigurno je ipak najznacajniji posjet velikana španjolskog slikarstva diega Velázqueza Guercinovom atelieru 1629. godine jer je rezultirao nizom Velázquezovih slika nastalih pod izravnim utjecajem ovog talijanskog umjetnika. ova cinjenica možda je i dobar putokaz za razumijevanje pravog znacenja i utjecaja koji je Guercino imao na razvoj baroknog slikarstva 17. i 18. stoljeca, u kojima je upravo njegov barokno-klasicisticki formalni i ikonografski vokabular postao jedna od paradigmi na koji su se oslanjali mnogi veliki i mali umjetnici tog vremena. Stoga ne iznenaduje da odsjaje Guercinova karakteristicnog slikarskog izricaja možemo prepoznati i na mnogim, neocekivanim mjestima i crkvama diljem Europe.
