What IF you suddenly learned that what you always believed would be a natural part of your life, was not only going to be difficult, but potentially impossible? That your body was not able to function as designed, or that your knowledge of how your own body even works has been severely limited? Now imagine that you're expected to take that news and continue functioning normally, field invasive and often hurtful questions or statements, and maintain your interpersonal relationships. This is exactly how it feels for the millions of individuals and couples that find themselves experiencing infertility. So how ironic is it that one of the most common acronyms for infertility is IF, considering how much of our lives feel like a great big "what if" during infertility.Regina Townsend wants to help you make sense of the what if's. Through this book she'll use her personal story of infertility, infused with her signature wit and empathy to help you:Make sense of the various and often unexpected feelings that fertility issues present;Provide some humor to a difficult and often heartbreaking situation;Gain insight, tools, and even words to help along your journey;Remember that this is all a part of your journey and deserves to be documented, regardless of the outcome;Find solace in knowing that your feelings are valid and that you are not alone.Part memoir and part guided journal, Make IF Make Sense will empower you to push through to the goals you have in mind for your family building or reproductive health journey. Ideal for those experiencing infertility, or the loving friends and family who wish they knew how to offer support.

Everything is getting more complex. It is easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of information we encounter each day. Whether at work, at school, or in our personal endeavors, there's a deepening (and inescapable) need for people to work with and understand information. Information architecture is the way that we arrange the parts of something to make it understandable as a whole. When we make things for others to use, the architecture of information that we choose greatly affects our ability to deliver our intended message to our users. We all face messes made of information and people. This book defines the word "mess" the same way that most dictionaries do: "A situation where the interactions between people and information are confusing or full of difficulties." - Who doesn't bump up against messes made of information and people every day? How to Make Sense of Any Mess provides a seven step process for making sense of any mess. Each chapter contains a set of lessons as well as workbook exercises architected to help you to work through your own mess.

Global news on anthropogenic climate change is shaped by international politics, scientific reports and voices from transnational protest movements. This timely volume asks how local communities engage with these transnational discourses. The chapters in this volume present a range of compelling case studies drawn from a broad cross-section of local communities around the world, reflecting diverse cultural and geographical contexts. From Greenland to northern Tanzania, it illuminates how different understandings evolve in diverse cultural and geographical contexts while also revealing some common patterns of how people make sense of climate change. Global Warming in Local Discourses constitutes a significant, new contribution to understanding the multi-perspectivity of our debates on climate change, further highlighting the need for interdisciplinary study within this area. It will be a valuable resource to those studying climate and science communication; those interested in understanding the various roles played by journalism, NGOs, politics and science in shaping public understandings of climate change, as well as those exploring the intersections of the global and the local in debates on the sustainable transformation of societies.

Why me, why this, why now? Life could not be more meaningless. If God is good, why does He allow evil? If He is All-powerful, why doesn't He prevent evil? Making Sense of Nonsense is a well-written and engaging book for those who want answers to questions about life or deepen their understanding of the things in life that appear not to make sense to them. Prophetess Adesola Elegbede raised many of life's questions and sought to answer them in a way that lay men and women will understand. She urges that when all hope is lost, when the world seems to be caving in, and all you want to do is lie in your bed and pray to fall asleep instead of falling apart, remember that the struggle you see today must develop you for the strength you need tomorrow. Hope empowers us to chase light even inside gross darkness. The darkest of nights cannot defeat the sunrise of hope. Disappointments are finite, but hope is infinite. It is her prayer that as you read this book, you might, in the end, see that there is indeed some sense in the nonsensical things of life.

This book is not about what we can teach animals, but what they can teach us. Their differences are often not as radical as most humans imagine, which is one reason we love animals. We have more neurons in our neurological systems, but we share many of the same features and underestimate what they have learned about survival strategies over the eons. We stop and think a lot more, but in doing so can sometimes interfere with natural processes and the results are not always good. Animals provide a good platform from which we should launch emotionally and even ethically if we pay attention to them. This book is unlike carefully documented scholarly articles that Dr. Thomas also writes. It is written for a wide popular audience, and is loaded with stories and humor. It is meant to be easy to read for almost anyone.

How Western nations have consolidated their whiteness through the figure of the Muslim in the post-9/11 world While much has been written about post-9/11 anti-Muslim racism (often termed Islamophobia), insufficient attention has been given to how anti-Muslim racism operates through law and is a vital part of law’s protection of whiteness. This book fills this gap while also providing a unique new global perspective on white supremacy. Sherene H. Razack, a leading critical race and feminist scholar, takes an innovative approach by situating law within media discourses and historical and contemporary realities. We may think of law as logical, but, argues Razack, its logic breaks down when the subject is Muslim. Tracing how white subjects and majority-white nations in the post-9/11 era have consolidated their whiteness through the figure of the Muslim, Razack examines four sites of anti-Muslim racism: efforts by American evangelical Christians to ban Islam in the school curriculum; Canadian and European bans on Muslim women’s clothing; racial science and the sentencing of Muslims as terrorists; and American national memory of the torture of Muslims during wars and occupations. Arguing that nothing has to make sense when the subject is Muslim, she maintains that these legal and cultural sites reveal the dread, phobia, hysteria, and desire that mark the encounter between Muslims and the West. Through the prism of racism, Nothing Has to Make Sense argues that the figure of the Muslim reveals a world divided between the deserving and the disposable, where people of European origin are the former and all others are confined in various ways to regimes of disposability. Emerging from critical race theory, and bridging with Islamophobia/critical religious studies, it demonstrates that anti-Muslim racism is a revelatory window into the operation of white supremacy as a global force.
