Musikfilme und die Präsentation von Musik im bewegten Bild haben eine lange Tradition in der Filmgeschichte. Sie reichen zurück bis in die Frühzeit des (Stumm-)Films, der bereits musikalische Darbietungen und Auftritte bebilderte und in Narrationen einwebte. Etwa in Filmmusicals, Soundies oder avantgardistischen Klang-Bildspielen werden spätere Entwicklungen für populäre Musikfilme und Musikvideos vorweggenommen. Ob, inwieweit und in welcher Form in diesen frühen Film- und Bewegtbildern mit und über Musik Jugendlichkeit und Jungsein bereits als Bezugsrahmen auftaucht, ist eine zu klärende Frage des vorliegenden Sammelbandes. Musikfilme weisen inhaltlich wie ästhetisch eine große Bandbreite auf, die sich im historischen Verlauf parallel zur Entwicklung von Jugend- und Musikkulturen ausdifferenziert hat. Der Sammelband möchte vor dem Hintergrund dieser und anderer Entwicklungen in der audiovisuellen Darstellung und Erzählung im Spannungsfeld von Musik, Film und Jugend eine Bestandsaufnahme aktueller Forschungsfragen aufarbeiten.

In this book, native popular musicologists focus on their own popular music cultures from Germany, Austria and Switzerland for the first time: from subcultural to mainstream phenomena; from the 1950s to contemporary acts. Starting with an introduction and two chapters on the histories of German popular music and its study, the volume then concentrates on focused, detailed and yet concise close readings from different perspectives (including particular historical East and West German perspectives), mostly focusing on the music and its protagonists. Moreover, these analyses deal with very original specific genres such as Schlager and Krautrock as well as transcultural genres such as Punk or Hip Hop. There are additional chapters on characteristically German developments within music media, journalism and the music industry. The book will contribute to a better understanding of German, Austrian and Swiss popular music, and will interconnect international and especially Anglo-American studies with German approaches. The book, as a consequence, will show close connections between global and local popular music cultures and diverse traditions of study.

Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Musik - Sonstiges, Studienseminar für Gymnasien in Kassel, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: [...] Um die Kultur(-Politik) der Partei und des Staates nachvollziehen zu können, wird zunächst kurz die Bedeutung des Kulturbegriffs in der DDR erläutert. Die nachstehenden Kapitel geben einen Überblick über die (Kultur-)Politik der DDR ausgehend von den 1950er Jahren bis zum Mauerfall. Die Leitfrage dieser Überblickskapitel wie auch der gesamten Untersuchung beschäftigt sich mit den (kultur)politischen Maßnahmen und Handlungen der SED im Hinblick auf Rockmusik. Dabei soll aufgezeigt werden, wie und weshalb versucht wurde, diese Musik staatlich zu kontrollieren und welche Auswirkungen dies auf die Rockmusik in der DDR hatte. Außerdem soll herausgearbeitet werden, wie sich die Kulturpolitik im Laufe der Zeit verändert hat. Im Hauptteil der Arbeit wird am konkreten Beispiel des Konzerts von Bob Dylan ausführlicher untersucht, aus welchen (kulturpolitischen) Gründen sowie unter welchen Voraussetzungen und Bedingungen ein Konzert eines „westlichen“ Rockstars in der DDR stattfinden konnte. Um die Bedeutung und Wirkung dieses Konzerts verständlich zu machen, wird zunächst Bezug auf die (musikalische) Biographie Bob Dylans im Zusammenhang mit den gesellschaftlichen wie musikkulturellen Ereignissen in den 1960er Jahren genommen. In den Kapiteln zu dem Konzert wird zuerst sein historischer Kontext mit Bezug auf die geschichtlichen Umstände des Jahres 1987 dargestellt. Danach steht die Untersuchung der Planung und Organisation im Mittelpunkt. Im Anschluss wird aufgezeigt, wie von Seiten des Veranstalters, des Publikums sowie der Medien in Ost und West das Konzert rezipiert wurde. Des Weiteren folgt ein kurzer Ausblick auf die Folgewirkungen des Konzerts. Im letzten Kapitel werden die Fragestellungen der Untersuchung beantwortet und die zentralen Ergebnisse zusammenfassend dargestellt. [...]

11 Eine Subjektivierung des Musikerlebnisses bringt dann die Neuzeit mit sich. Musik er freut nach Descartes, wenn ihre mathematische Struktur für den Sinn klar erkennbar ist, ohne einförmig zu sein. Zweck der Musik ist eigentlich die Sinnesfreude, die freilich eine Form mathematischer Erkenntnis (zugleich) ist. Erst mit der Erstehung der Kunstphiloso phie und Ästhetik, endgültig im 18. Jahrhundert, gerät Musik in einen neuen Zusammen hang. Nun wechselt sie aus dem Bereich der artes liberales, also dem der Wissenschaft und ontologischen Rationalität, in den Kreis der schönen Künste über und wird damit zu einem primär oder ausschließlich ästhetischen Phänomen. Nun wird sie zum Produkt des unbe wußt schaffenden Genies. Die bildende Kunst ahmt eher die äußere sichtbare Natur und der Menschen nach; die unsichtbare, innere Natur des Menschen, Gemüt und Leidenschaften, sind nun Inhalt musikalischen Ausdrucks. Damit gehört Musik auch nicht mehr den nach ahmenden Künsten an und konstituiert sich als Ausdruckskunst: "Als ihr Gehalt erweisen sich bald nicht mehr die tabellarisch erfaBten bestimmten Affekte, sondern das viel weitere Feld der Empfindungen. Diese werden von der Empfindungstheorie der Leibniz-Schule als ein Kontinuum klarer, aber verworrener Vorstellungen beschrieben (clara et confusa re praesentatio)" (ebd. , S. 250). In der Aufklärung zum Ausdrucksorgan der Subjektivität geworden, wird Musik in der Romantik über das Gefühl als Ahnung und Gegenwart des Absoluten interpretiert: Die Seele weitet sich. Diese zwar wirkungsvolle Unbestimmtheit wirft das Problem der Form-Inhalt-Beziehung auf.

Is music removed from politics? To what ends, beneficent or malevolent, can music and musicians be put? In short, when human rights are grossly abused and politics turned to fascist demagoguery, can art and artists be innocent? These questions and their implications are explored in Michael Kater's broad survey of musicians and the music they composed and performed during the Third Reich. Great and small--from Valentin Grimm, a struggling clarinetist, to Richard Strauss, renowned composer--are examined by Kater, sometimes in intimate detail, and the lives and decisions of Nazi Germany's professional musicians are laid out before the reader. Kater tackles the issue of whether the Nazi regime, because it held music in crassly utilitarian regard, acted on musicians in such a way as to consolidate or atomize the profession. Kater's examination of the value of music for the regime and the degree to which the regime attained a positive propaganda and palliative effect through the manner in which it manipulated its musicians, and by extension, German music, is of importance for understanding culture in totalitarian systems. This work, with its emphasis on the social and political nature of music and the political attitude of musicians during the Nazi regime, will be the first of its kind. The political control of music in the Third Reich has been analysed from several perspectives, and with ever increasing sophistication. However, music in Germany after 1945 has not received anything like the same treatment. Rather, there is an assumption that two separate musical cultures emerged in East and West alongside the division of Germany into two states with differing economic and political systems. There is a widely accepted view of music in West Germany as 'free', and in the East subject to party control. Toby Thacker challenges these assumptions, asking how and why music was controlled in Germany under Allied Occupation from 1945-1949, and in the early years of 'semi-sovereignty' between 1949 and 1955. The 're-education' of Germany after the Hitler years was a unique historical experiment and the place of music within this is explored here for the first time. While emphasizing political, economic and broader social structures that influenced the production and reception of different musical forms, the book is informed by a sense of human agency, and explores the role of salient individuals in the reconstruction of music in post-war Germany. The focus is not restricted to any one kind of music, but concentrates on those aspects of music, professional and amateur, live and recorded, which appeared to be the mostly highly charged politically to contemporaries. Particular attention is given to 'denazification' and to the introduction of international music. Thacker traces the development of a divide between Communist and liberal-democratic understandings of the place of music in society. The contested celebrations of the Bach Year in 1950 are used to highlight the role of music in the broader cultural confrontation between East and West. Thacker examines the ways in which central governments in East and West Germany sought to control and influence music through mechanisms of censorship and positive support.
