Die Autorin widmet sich dieser Forschungslücke und entwickelt ein analytisches Instrumentarium. Es ermöglicht die Untersuchung der auf das Gesamtwerk und Einzelbild bezogenen Bildkonzeptionen in Form eines funktional aufgefächerten Spektrums. Die entwickelten Bildkonzeptionen tragen dazu bei, die Bildsprache alter und neuer Bilder- und Kinderbibeln in religionspädagogischen Kontexten neu und zum Teil überraschend zu deuten.

Von besonderer Bedeutung für die Kommunikation auf Facebook sind Bilder. Beiträge mit einem Bild weisen in der Regel deutlich höhere Interaktionsraten auf und sind für Werbetreibende somit von besonderem Interesse. Trotz der großen Relevanz wurde die Gestaltung von Facebook-Werbebildern bisher nur wenig wissenschaftlich untersucht. Es fehlt an effektiven Werkzeugen und Fachwissen, um eine fundierte Auswahl geeignete Bilder zu gewährleisten. Die Wahl des Werbebildes wird oft „[...] aus dem Bauch oder nach dem persönlichen Geschmack des Auftraggebers getroffen, weil der empirische Forschungsstand unbekannt ist oder weil man sich nicht die Mühe macht, diesen zu recherchieren“ (Siegert; Wirth; Lischka, 2016, S. 613 – 614). Daher wird im Rahmen dieser Studie eine erste empirische Untersuchung der Bildkommunikation ausgewählter Facebook-Werbeanzeigen durchgeführt. Es wird dabei anhand von Kriterien der Bild- und Werbewirkung untersucht, für welche Werbeziele Unternehmen die Anzeigen nutzen und wie sie die Anzeigenbilder zur Gestaltung ihrer Werbebotschaft einsetzen.
