This book demonstrates that 'monetary analysis', as contained in Post-Keynesian monetary theories, but also in the Neo-Ricardian monetary theory of distribution and in Marx's monetary analysis, can be integrated into Post-Keynesian models of distribution of growth in a convincing way.

"The defining characteristic of the monetary and financial systems of the capitalist economies since the 1960s has been persistent and fundamental change. Some indicators of this change include the patterns toward financial deregulation, historically high interest rates, and increasingly frequent and severe bouts of financial instability. The essays in this book build from the contributions of Hyman P. Minsky, whose theories in the areas of monetary macroeconomics, unlike those of nearly all practitioners in this field, have sought to understand the processes of structural change and instabilities as inherent features of capitalist economies." "New Perspectives in Monetary Macroeconomics includes essays that explore the nature of Keynesian uncertainty and the systematic sources of financial instability; empirical essays that consider, among other topics, instability in the contemporary international economy, the Latin American debt crisis, the Great Depression, and the political forces influencing central banks; and essays in analytic history that consider the connections between Minsky's work and that of Schumpeter, Marx, and the Sraffian school." "The book's overall contribution advances thinking in four interrelated areas: how financial factors play a central role in establishing the pace and direction of real investment; how financial fragility emerges through endogenous market practices; how money and credit are generated endogenously through financial market activity rather than simply through prior saving and central bank interventions; and how financial markets are an important site of inter- and intra-class conflict, especially as manifested through the policies of central banks and other important governmental institutions."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 3, Universität Leipzig (Institut für Politikwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Wirtschaftssystem und Wirtschaftspolitik in der BRD, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Nachdem sich der Kapitalismus im Zuge der industriellen Revolution des 18. und 19.

First Published in 1983. This book is a contribution to the debate about Monetarism as an economic policy, and whether and how Monetarist policies can contribute to solving the current economic crisis. The diverse backgrounds and opinions of the distinguished economists writing in this volume, some supportive and some critical of Monetarism, ensure a variety of interpretations of the causes of, and responses to, the crisis. Overall, however, the book lays emphasis on two related factors which are frequently neglected in the current debates. Firstly, that the current economic crisis is a world crisis which is felt concomitantly, though in different forms and with different intensities, in the industrial countries, in the countries of the socialist bloc, and in the Third World. And although its manifestations in the industrial and in the developing countries have been quite different, the proposed policy answer has been fairly homogeneously Monetarist. Secondly, the message occurs throughout the book that in today's highly integrated world economy, national economic policies have lost much of their autonomy; Monetarist policies should therefore be assessed as to their consistency with external conditions and their effects on other countries. The contributors analyse the manifestations of the economic crisis in various parts of the world and give their individual views on Monetarist policies. Obviously there is no agreement, but that is not the purpose of this volume: its aim is to place the Monetarism discussion in the international context in which it should be conducted.
