The Rhetoric Of Supreme Court Women written by Nichola D. Gutgold and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-24 with Law categories.

The Supreme Court is one of the most traditional institutions in America that has been an exclusively male domain for almost two hundred years. From 1981 to 2010, four women were appointed to the Supreme Court for the first time in U.S. history. The Rhetoric of Supreme Court Women: From Obstacles to Options, by Nichola D. Gutgold, analyzes the rhetoric of the first four women elected to the Supreme Court: Sandra Day O’Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. Gutgold’s thorough exploration of these pioneering women’s rhetorical strategies includes confirmation hearings, primary scripts of their written opinions, invited public lectures, speeches, and personal interviews with Justices O’Connor, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor. These illuminating documents and interviews form rhetorical biographies of the first four women of the Supreme Court, shedding new light on the rise of political women in the American judiciary and the efficacy of their rhetoric in a historically male-dominated political system. Gutgold’s The Rhetoric of Supreme Court Women provides valuable insight into political communication and the changing gender zeitgeist in American politics.

Cyber Law And Cyber Security In Developing And Emerging Economies written by Zeinab Karake-Shalhoub and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-01 with Law categories.

This timely and important book illuminates the impact of cyber law on the growth and development of emerging and developing economies. Using a strong theoretical framework firmly grounded in resource-based and technology diffusion literature, the authors convey a subtle understanding of the ways public and private sector entities in developing and emerging countries adopt cyber space processes. This book reveals that the diffusion of cyber activities in developing and emerging economies is relatively low, with the main stumbling blocks resting in regulatory, cultural, and social factors. The authors argue that cyber crimes constitute a prime obstacle to the diffusion of e-commence and e-governments in developing economies, and governments have an important role in developing control mechanisms in the form of laws. However, setting appropriate policies and complementary services, particularly those affecting the telecommunications sector and other infrastructure, human capital and the investment environment, severely constrains Internet access. Using both strategic and operational perspectives, the authors discuss the concrete experience of constructing and implementing cyber laws and cyber security measures in developing and emerging countries, and analyse their content and appropriateness. Professionals, academics, students, and policymakers working in the area of cyber space, e-commerce and economic development, and United Nations entities working closely with the Millennium Development Goals, will find this book an invaluable reference.

Effects Of The Subprime Crisis On The U S American Financial Reporting System written by Miriam Janzen and has been published by diplom.de this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-30 with Business & Economics categories.

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: The Subprime Crisis became noticeable first in the second half of 2006, when many subprime mortgage borrowers in the United States of America (U.S.) were no longer able to make their loan payments, and securities linked to those mortgages, that had been sold all over the world, turned out to be often worth quite less and in general substantially more risky than market participants had expected. The crisis caused several major financial institutions and mortgage lenders to face substantial liquidity problems or even to file for bankruptcy, and Governments to provide funding in order to limit further damage to the economy. As the market tried to figure out the problems underlying the crisis, financial reporting, especially regarding derecognition of financial assets, special purpose entities and fair value measurement, became a matter of public concern. Consequently, the purpose of this work is to discuss these concerns in order to estimate whether and to what extend financial reporting might have contributed to the crisis and to present and assess the usefulness of actions taken by the U.S. Financial Reporting System in response to the crisis. In order to meet this objective, the second main chapter provides a brief description of how the housing boom and the subsequent crisis evolved. The information provided therein shall contribute to the reader s understanding with respect to the following passages and especially judgements made by the author regarding the role of financial reporting in the crisis. The third main chapter will describe the U.S. Financial Reporting System, by providing basic information about U.S. institutions that authoritatively deal with the elements of the system, including their aims, basics about their work and how they interact. The fourth main section of the paper will examine the relevant reporting concepts and disclosure requirements, provide suggestions for improvements, and assess concerns voiced by market participants with respect to financial reporting. Subsequently, the thesis will analyze and judge actions taken by authoritative institutions of the U.S. Financial Reporting Sytems in response to the crisis. This thesis considered publications issued until December 10, 2008.
