Philosophy In The Tragic Age Of The Greeks written by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-28 with Philosophy categories.

For Nietzsche the Age of Greek Tragedy was indeed a tragic age. He saw in it the rise and climax of values so dear to him that their subsequent drop into catastrophe (in the person of Socrates - Plato) was clearly foreshadowed as though these were events taking place in the theater. And so in this work, unpublished in his own day but written at the same time that his The Birth of Tragedy had so outraged the German professorate as to imperil his own academic career, his most deeply felt task was one of education. He wanted to present the culture of the Greeks as a paradigm to his young German contemporaries who might thus be persuaded to work toward a state of culture of their own; a state where Nietzsche found sorely missing.

It is difficult to approach a question on the negativity of Nietzsche's philosophy without a degree of prejudice. Nietzsche, considerably more than most philosophers, has permeated Western popular culture to the extent that his name entails specific, negative connotations even to the layman. Although, this is perhaps in part due to an unfair association with Hitler, claims that Nietzsche promotes an inherently negative philosophy are present even in academic treatments. It is among such academics that the most serious accusation against Nietzsche arises; namely that of Nietzsche being a nihilist. While accusations related to Nazism can relatively easily be refuted, other accusations are not quite as unfounded: Nietzsche encouraged strength and power; he called himself an "immoralist"; he rejected democracy and human equality; he promoted the notion of an "Ubermensch"; and he did encourage nihilism. The author discusses these negative associations in terms of Nietzsche's philosophy. He exposes this common fallacy by interpreting the various elements of Nietzsche's ethics in the context of his philosophy as a whole.

Zarathustra S Secret written by Joachim Köhler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08 with categories.

Over a century after his death in 1900, Nietzsche remains a seminal figure in the history of European intellectual life. Celebrated as a liberator by some, maligned as a pernicious influence by others, he was the subject of controversy during his lifetime, pursuing a hedonistic individualism and espousing concepts such as the Superman and the Will to Power until he died, after a decade of institutionalised insanity. In this groundbreaking biography, Joachim Kohler seeks for the first time to understand Nietzsche's philosophy through a reconstruction of his inner life. In a revealing reinterpretation of his letters, diaries and writings, Kohler shows that Nietzsche's suppressed homosexuality, generating a hatred of Christianity and conventional morality, was a central influence on his work and argues that his philosophical position was fundamentally compromised by the concealment of his forbidden sexual desire. Throughout his life, as Kohler demonstrates, the unhappy genius was also plagued by terrible nightmares, stemming from the death of his much-loved father, which led to a profoundly disturbed conscience and an intense of loathing of metaphysics. Seeking to disguise the truth of his innermost torments, Nietzsche contrived the persona of Zarathustra. The story of the great Persian philosopher, Kohler argues, reveals Nietzsche's own suppression and dionysiac liberation, and presents the culmination of his secret yearnings in the new myth of Superman, who in his naked beauty, resembled the gods of classical Greece. Joachim Kohler's books on Nietzsche and on Wagner have been translated into eleven languages.

Nietzsche And The Promise Of Philosophy written by Wayne Klein and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-09-25 with Philosophy categories.

This book questions the consensus about the meaning and importance of Nietzsche's philosophy that has developed in the United States and Britain during the last thirty years and reestablishes close reading as the ground of interpretation. Arguing that there is greater continuity in Nietzsche's thought than is usually recognized, Klein focuses particularly on the genesis and nature of Nietzsche's theory of language and rhetoric, exploring the relationship between his early theory of language, expressed in The Birth of Tragedy, and the canonical writings of the late 1880s. Other topics considered include the relationship between style and subjectivity, the semiological underpinnings of Nietzsche's theory of tragedy, and Nietzsche's naturalism. This book is united by the conviction that Nietzsche's understanding of language is an essential part of his thought, and that whatever their explicit themes, Nietzsche's texts constitute a sustained reflection on the nature of reading and writing, which forces the reader to put into question conventional views about how philosophical texts should be interpreted. By focusing on this aspect of Nietzsche's thought, Klein provokes readers into taking a second look at Nietzsche, revisiting questions that have long been considered closed and posing new ones in the process. The author powerfully combines careful textual exegesis with a broad historical view of Nietzsche's philosophy. Unlike many contemporary works of Nietzsche scholarship that seek to provide a general overview of Nietzsche's thought, the book is largely devoted to sustained, detailed readings of some of the central texts of the Nietzschean canon, allowing the reader to gain a greater understanding of the subtleties and nuances of these texts within the context of the larger philosophical issues they raise.

Nietzsche’s Philosophy of Education makes the case that Nietzsche’s philosophy has significant import for the theory and contemporary practice of education, arguing that some of Nietzsche's most important ideas have been misunderstood by previous interpreters. In providing novel reinterpretations of Nietzsche's ethical theory, political philosophy and philosophical anthropology and outlining concrete ways in which these ideas can enrich teaching and learning in modern democratic schools, the book sets itself apart from previous works on Nietzsche. This is one of the first extended engagements with Nietzsche’s philosophy which attempts to determine his true legacy for democratic education. In its engagement with both the vast secondary literature on Nietzsche's philosophy and the educational implications of his philosophical vision, this book makes a unique contribution to both the philosophy of education and Nietzsche scholarship. In addition, its development of four concrete pedagogical approaches from Nietzsche's educational ideas makes the book a potentially helpful guide to meeting the practical challenges of contemporary teaching. This book will be of great interest to Nietzsche scholars, researchers in the philosophy of education and students studying educational foundations.
