Child and Cross from the beginning puts children in the center, listening to how they perceive the man on the cross. Three initial chapters trace the life of this Jesus bar Abbas according to highly respected sources, in a very human, down-to-earth way from mother's womb to rebels' cross. How the picture of the rabbi's deadly torture became the obsessive icon of the West and in an "automatic and preconscious" way (Melvin Lerner) continues working as the learning tool for Jew-hate is explained thanks to the sensitivity of psychologists like Søren Kierkegaard, Jean Piaget and Helena Antipoff, exposed in 73 pictures. The return of Passion details in Christian views of Jews, the reenactment of those scaring details in thousand years of "just punishment", racism as product of inquisition, the still solid cross taboo in Germany, the complex of cross and Zionism and the kafkaesque cross judgement of the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg are examined while the human obsession with sacrifice itself gets analyzed in "The Lamb on Cross" whose pegged legs shaped western use of animals more than this Nazarene who in his last action fought precisely animal sacrifice. The final exam "Why Johanna fed him vanilla cake and other child's play questions" intends to sensitize the reader once again concerning the child & cross issue, well in accordance with the Galilean who "called a child and set him in their midst ..." Thus Child and Cross is mainly a) an exemplary study about the power of visual images and for respecting children's empathic ways of viewing this world; b) a consistent, comprising and explaining analysis of anti-Judaism by taking serious those human beings that academic research of "anti-Semitism" deems too small and childish to deal with; c) a contribution to Christian-Muslim-Jewish dialogue by detailed elaboration of not only the Christian symbol's role in the anti-Judaism that led to Zionism and thus to Gaza, but also of the connecting potential of this man from Galilee whom Matthew (27:16-17 in original Greek wording) calls Jesus bar Abbas; and d) a human rehabilitation of this Bar Abbas ("Son of Father") and his relatives, especially his brother Judas.

Based on diligent research, the seven scenes of this nativity play present a realistic, biblically evidenced and coherent but persistently denied reading of Jesus' coming into this world. His end as a victim of Roman soldiers in touching psycho-logics corresponds with his start in the womb of a young rural worker victimized by Roman soldiers. Far from blasphemy but full of sympathy with both victims, these scenes show that, in the wording of Brazilian Rabbi Nilton Bonder, "not force and virility but ... the woman builds the path of humanity" and that, in the words of Catholic US-theologist Jane Schaberg, the repressed tradition of Jesus' illegitimous birth "unmasked ... presents us with fuller human realities and therefore with deeper theological potential."

According to the American Institute of Stress (AIS), job stress is far and away the primary source of stress for American adults. The relationship between job stress and heart attacks, hypertension, and other disorders is well understood. Further, the cost of job stress in the United States is estimated to be over $300 billion due to outcomes such as accidents, turnover, and lost productivity. Perhaps the most consistent findings connecting job stress to health outcomes confirm that employees who perceive a high level of job demands without the appropriate control over job demands are at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. In Brazil, the loss is estimated at 3.5% of the gross domestic product per year. Occupational diseases are related to the activities performed by workers and to working conditions and can trigger new or worsen already existing symptoms. Proper diagnosis and relevant information are essential for managers and workers to become aware of stressors and to take efficient measures to manage stress. Although quality of life is the responsibility of every individual, companies will definitely be able to benefit from the implementation of preventive actions, thus avoiding to pay a high price as a result of absenteeism, sick leaves, and drops in productivity and low work quality. This book is designed to be an additional tool to provide information and to suggest ways to deal with pressures and work demands, because stress levels are still on the rise. We believe that through information – and here you will be able to find the experience and opinions of recognized professionals in this area – workers will be able to live better and more balanced lives.

This book aims at deconstructing and problematizing linguistic ideologies related to Portuguese in late modernity and questioning the theoretical presuppositions which have led us to call Portuguese ‘a language.’ Such an endeavor is crucial when we know that Portuguese is a language which is increasingly internationalized, used as the official language in four continents (in ten countries) and which has come to play a relevant role in the so-called linguistic market on the basis of the geopolitical transformations in a multipolar world. The book covers a wide range of social, political and historical contexts in which ‘Portuguese’ is used (in Brazil, Canada, East-Timor, England, Portugal, Mozambique and Uruguay), and considers diverse linguistic practices. Through this critique, contributors chart new directions for research on language ideologies and language practices (including research related to Portuguese and to other ‘languages’) and consider ways of developing new conceptual compasses that are better attuned to the sociolinguistic realities of the late modern era, in which people, texts and languages are increasingly in movement through national borders and those of digital networks of communication.

The author analyzes the logic implicit in the consumption behavior and ostentation, as important factor for there distribution policy. The author presents a review of the psychoanalytic literature and some psychology texts in an attempt to find a satisfactory solid basis to discuss the obvious display of behavior in capitalist society in which fetishism index, even if only as a marker for other researches that allow us to understand the consumption and ostentation behavior, it could, perhaps, turn into useful socioeconomic tool.
