Os Cuidados Paliativos (CP) têm seu surgimento através de uma filosofia humanitária, tema referente aos cuidados de pacientes em estágios terminais, aliviando o sofrimento e a dor aos portadores de doenças que são incuráveis no campo da medicina, contribuindo assim, para que o paciente tenha dignidade na hora de sua partida. O Cuidado Paliativo é uma abordagem que promove a qualidade de vida em estágio final na vida do indivíduo, seus familiares e na equipe multiprofissional, prevenindo e aliviando o sofrimento de todos. Um tema pouco explorado e que gera confusão na atualidade, sendo relacionada com a eutanásia (ato intencional de proporcionar uma morte indolor para aliviar o sofrimento causado por uma doença incurável ou dolorosa), sendo, duas coisas distintas ao modo de ver neste presente trabalho. Adentrando na literatura sobre o tema, nota-se a considerável produção que trata da temática, mas, para isto, é preciso ter em mente as recentes transformações que ocorreram no campo dos cuidados paliativos e a atuação do psicólogo hospitalar frente ao tema em questão. Levando em consideração o momento histórico em que foi descoberto, as perspectivas contemporâneas e as altas taxas de incidência, a questão que norteia este trabalho é: quais os desafios encontrados ao tentar compreender a Psicologia Hospitalar e a tríade dos Cuidados Paliativos? De maneira geral, este trabalho tem por finalidade discutir a respeito do cuidado paliativo sob o olhar da psicologia hospitalar, adentrando em pormenores de suas raízes históricas, o que é Cuidados Paliativos e os cuidados psicológicos necessários sobre a tríade nos cuidados terminais. Esta pesquisa, de cunho bibliográfica narrativa, utiliza como metodologia a revisão de literaturas sobre Cuidados Paliativos e psicologia que auxiliarão no desenvolvimento e o entendimento sobre o assunto. Serão levantados estudos clássicos e em estudos mais recentes no período de 10 anos, sendo todos relacionados com o tema deste trabalho.

The Patient Safety Improvement Corps (PSIC), part of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ's) patient safety initiative, is a program of three one-week sessions (didactic lessons, homework, and a team project) operated collaboratively by the AHRQ and the Veterans' Affairs (VA) National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS). Its purpose is to improve patient safety in the nation by increasing the number and capacity of health care professionals with patient safety knowledge and skills, achieved through training teams from all 50 U.S. states over three years. This report presents findings from RAND's evaluation of the first two years of the PSIC. Data were collected through in-person, group interviews with trainees at the final training session in May 2004 and May 2005, and through individual telephone interviews with the first-year trainees one year later. Overall, reported experiences were positive. Participants valued the broad perspective gained, and the tools and skills they learned and continue to use. They appreciated and continued to draw upon the technical aspects, the hands-on exercises, the knowledge gained through team projects, and the reference materials. Additionally, they value the networking opportunities, and they have made efforts to spread their knowledge. Significantly, there are strong indications that the program has contributed to actions in the field to improve patient safety. Key barriers challenging trainees' program participation and ability to make changes at their home organizations included lack of resources and cultural obstacles (such as blaming individuals for system problems). A need for continued training and programs to train larger, more-diverse teams was also noted. The findings suggest that the PSIC is making important contributions toward building a national infrastructure to support implementation of effective patient safety practices.
