Um dos livros mais modernistas e políticos de Drummond, A rosa do povo retorna em novo projeto, com posfácio de Affonso Romano de Sant'Anna. A poesia de Carlos Drummond de Andrade não precisa de manual crítico para ser apreciada. A obra se basta. Mas em se tratando de A rosa do povo, o contexto histórico em que o livro foi escrito e publicado ajuda a dar ainda mais sentido aos 55 poemas que compõem essa obra-prima, publicada em 1945, quando o poeta completou 43 anos. Escritos sob o impacto da Segunda Guerra Mundial e da ditadura do Estado Novo no Brasil, os versos trazem grande carga "politizada", traço que já aparecera em livros anteriores, como Sentimento do mundo e José. É assim com o conhecidíssimo "A flor e a náusea", onde a beleza (ou seria a poesia?) brota dos lugares mais hostis, em um tempo de desesperança, ou em "Nosso tempo" — "tempo de divisas, tempo de gente cortada" —, tão atual com suas poderosas imagens que chega a desconcertar o leitor. Sem esquecer da ode "Carta a Stalingrado", em que o poeta deixa bem claro seu humanismo diante da barbárie. Mas Drummond era um poeta completo. Para além do tom desesperançoso daquele momento, ele escreveu textos metalinguísticos ("Nova canção do exílio"), poemas de amor não correspondido ("O mito") e reflexões existenciais ("Morte no avião"). Há ainda a pérola "Caso do vestido", uma "narrativa" épica (meio rodriguiana), sobre traição e desonra, que o Nobel Bob Dylan certamente gostaria de ter escrito. No fim, o que prevalece mesmo é a poesia maior de Drummond, com sua fé inabalável no ofício da escrita: "Contempla as palavras, cada uma tem mil faces secretas" ("Procura da poesia"). Neste livro, elas têm mesmo. As novas edições da obra de Carlos Drummond de Andrade têm seus textos fixados por especialistas, com acesso inédito ao acervo de exemplares anotados e manuscritos que ele deixou.
